The Darker Side Of The Moon
Book 4 of The Black Moon series
Chapter 31: Baby Steps!Jeremy's POV – Wednesday 9 September 2015
"Good morning, Mr. Brown," Dr. Graaf says warmly as I walk into his office.
Third appointment and I'm not looking forward to it. Once again, I tried to talk Gary into cancelling it, telling him he was wasting his money, but the commanding Try again, Jer! I got in return shut me up and I followed him to the car.
"Please, take a seat! I'll be with you in a minute!" he then says as he walks to his desk.
With a discreet sigh, I move to one of the large and comfortable armchairs and sit down, preparing myself for another forty-five minutes of muteness. The therapist is still at his desk, fumbling with documents, after nearly five minutes. Maybe he knows I'm not going to talk again and tries to keep himself busy. However, he soon joins me, but instead of sitting in the armchair across from mine, he takes the one perpendicular to my left, forcing me to shift to a different position so that I can see him.
"How was the weekend, Jeremy? Did you enjoy one of the last beautiful days of the summer?" he asks in a rather cheerful tone.
"Yes..." I reply warily.
"Good! Before we know it, winter is going to strike us with snow storms, so it's better to enjoy the pleasant temperatures while they last! Do you like winter?"
"I don't really mind it..." I reply after a few seconds of hesitation.
Are we really going to discuss the weather?
"Me neither, actually. In any case, living in Illinois, we'd better be used to the long winters and the snow, right?" he states in a more or less playful tone, but I don't comment any further. "So! What did you do this weekend? Did you go out?" he asks, giving me a warm smile.
Okay... so no Would you like to tell me about your captivity today? Has he finally gathered that I don't want to speak about it?
"Gary and I went for a long walk at the Riverwalk in Naperville..." I reply shyly.
"Oh, that's a wonderful place!! Was this an idea of yours?"
"Hmm... no... It was Gary's..."
"Seems like it was a good idea! Did you see animals? Ducks? Birds? Squirrels?"
"Yes, a lot of them actually..." I reply, feeling warm in my heart as I remember Gary taking my hand while I was looking at the squirrels.
"It's nice to see you smile, Jeremy," Dr. Graaf says softly. "Shall I assume that you enjoyed yourself?"
"Yes... It was really nice..." I reply, blushing a little.
"Tell me about it, please. How long did you stroll at the Riverwalk? And did you stop by the Fredenhaggen Park?"
"Not sure, maybe a couple of hours... or a little more. And yes, we took a short break in this park by the fountain. But we mostly walked along the riverbanks..."
"That's nice. How did you feel being outside? Were you comfortable with Gary beside you?" he then asks, still in a very warm and encouraging voice.
"I was... I was a bit nervous in the beginning, but we had some sort of bodyguard following us and with Gary next to me... I managed to relax a bit."
"This is good! And how did it go with Gary? Did he keep some distance with you?" he then asks casually.
As if we had already broached such topics before. As if I hadn't kept silent during our two previous sessions. I know Gary exposed him the situation before I had my first appointment, so it's obvious they also talked about the nature of our current relationship. I don't mind, to be honest.
