Chapter 14

I couldn't stop staring at my bracelet that afternoon. Cody's super sweet, I just wish I could say yes to going out with him without thinking about everything else and just listen to my heart....

"Earth to Kate?" Ruby said waving her hand in front of my face.

"Hm?" I asked snapping out of a faze with one of Ruby's posters. I know right?! Shit.

"You were having eye sex with one of my posters" She giggled.

"No I wasn't" I said defending myself.

"Yeas you were, admit it Kate you like him, I've changed you into a simpsonizer...I WIN!" She squeals a little too loudly whilst clapping her hands like a 5 year old.

"If I say yeas will you stop annoying me about it?"

"Nope" She smiled.

I groaned and flopped onto my bed.

"So is CO₂ Carbon dioxide?"

"Yup" I reply popping the 'p'. We've been at this 'homework' for 45 minutes and still have hardly gotten anywhere.

I smiled once I got a text from Cody.

"And whats the formula for photosynthesis?"

"Hm?" I ask glancing up from my phone.

"Who the heck have you been texting this whole time?!" She demanded.

"No one!" I say locking my phone and gripping it tightly.

"Who's 'Him'?" Ruby asked sitting next to me. Damn it.

"A friend from Australia" I replied not completely lying to her. Hang on what about her and Eli or Ethan?!

"OMG so which one is it Eli or Ethan?" I asked waggling my eye brows desperately trying to change the subject. It worked too may I add. She didn't say anything as her blush said it all as she returned to her paper.

"E-Eli" she stammered.

"I KNEW IT!" I shot up having a little partay moment when really I had no clue who it actually was.

"Kaateeee! This is serious! what if he doesn't like me back?"

"So what if he doesn't, it just means he wasn't the one"

"Not helping" She glared back folding her arms.

"Ok, ok...umm...." I said thinking to myself...

"Can you ask him for me?" She asks out of the blue.

"What?! I-I hardly know him..."

"Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaassssssssssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

"Fine!" I caved in, just to stop her from stretching out her 'please' as long as she could possibly make it. There was well and truly no way out of this.

"Done!" She exclaims as we pick up our school bags and head off to meet Nat in the car.

"Finally, thats the longest science homework has taken me ever!" The whole of last night and nearly an hour of this morning to be exact.

"Yes but thats because science is my weakest subject, and you my friend, are excellent at it"

School went by at an average speed I guess, every minute ticking slower then ever, nothing much really happened. Ruby, Kailee and Cindy were dying down about the Cody topic though and Lexi and I have even gotten a lot closer. Things were going well, that was until I spoke to Eli the next period like I promised Ruby.

"Hey Eli" I said casually walking with him to geography.

"Hey Kate whats up?"

"Nothin" I replied trying to act chilled but I was super scared. What if he said he didn't like her back?!

"Had enough Cody talk aye so you've come crawling to me" He chuckled.

"Uh...yeah...sorta"

"You ok?"

"Yeah why wouldn't I be?" I replied a little too quickly which I then received a sure sure glare from. "Ok well theres this girl and-"

"Woah woah your not bi or anything are you?!" He asked stopping me.

"WHAT!? NO!" I shout in between fits of laughter.

"Ok good just checking..."

"Anywho...she likes this guy and she can't figure out how to tell him -"

"Yeah I'm having the same problem too, so count me out!"

"Really with who?" I asked hopefully. Maybe if he likes Ruby back this will be a hell of a lot easier than I thought.

"Well you know Chelsea from Biology?"

Oh shit no!

"Yeah...?" I asked slowly.

"Well I kinda like her" He replied sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck

"No!" I shout out in frustration.

"What's wrong?" He asks. Shit did I just say that out loud?

"Hm?" I ask

"You just screamed no!"

"Did I?" I ask chuckling...

"Yeah, are you sure everything ok?"

"Yeah"

No....

"Cool" He smiled as I took a seat next to Lexi.

How could I face Ruby? She's liked Eli for like a year or something and it turns out he doesn't like her back. She's going to be crushed, then I'm going to get the blame and Ruby will hate me. How am I meant to live with that for the rest of the year!?

I had tried my hardest to avoid Ruby for the rest of the day, but it wasn't going too well when it came 6th period as she was in my class and I knew I had a house to share with her as well. I kept spacing in and out thinking about Cody and Ruby.

I felt a large pang in my chest when my pocket vibrate. Only one person came to mind. Cody.

I pull out my phone discreetly under the table and read the text:

'baaaaabbbeee! I miss chu sah much! when u comin ova next? xo'

I smiled at the screen thinking about when would be a good time to see him next but the smile soon faded when I saw Mr Gibbs hovering over me. I immediately sunk into my chair knowing I was in trouble, this school was quite strict. I just hope I get off lightly.

"This isn't like you Miss Brown" He says extending him hand "Hand it over" I reluctantly slipped my iPhone into his hand and just looked down at my notes to avoid everyones eyes burning straight through me.

"You may retrieve it at the end of the lesson, now everyone please turn to page 247"

I look over to Ruby who was giving me a questioning glance and I just shook it away. Hopefully she wouldn't press any further comments about it...but this is Ruby...she never forgets anything...

"This isn't like you Kate" Mr Gibbs said holding my phone. Are you serious?! Can't I just get it back and leave?!

"I know, it won't happen again" I replied not proud of it either. I know I was here on exchange and I did value my education but Cody...

"Good, now hurry off and don't let me catch you with it again" He replied sternly as he handed me back my phone.

I thanked him and walked over to Ruby.

"So did you ask him?"

"U-Uhh..." What was I supposed to say 'yes and he doesn't like you sorry?!' what kind of person do you think I am? I'm not letting my friend end up heartbroken. Its not a pretty sight...
