Julietta arose from her bed a lot happier than the day before. She had repaired her relationship with Tom. She was feeling better than ever as she made her way to potions class. Things changed when she walked into the classroom though. She noticed the potion immediately and so she began to turn around and walk out of the classroom. She stopped when Tom gently pulled her into the classroom. "I hate that potion with every part of my being." Julietta scowled while Tom led her to their seats. "You have no idea." Tom seethed before sitting down. He tightly gripped her hand for support.
Slughorn entered the room with even more dramatic flair than usual. "This class is the most dangerous love potion ever made. It is Amortenia!" he announced with a flourish before lifting the lid completely off making the smell fill the room. Julietta began to breathe through her mouth and moved backwards to avoid the spiraling smoke. "Now can anyone tell me about Amortentia in more depth." Some Hufflepuff put his hand up and blurted "Amortentia is the most powerful love potion in the world. It is distinctive for its mother-of-pearl sheen and its steam which as you can see rises from the potion in spirals. Amortentia smells different to each person, according to what they most desire."
"Very good description. Five points to Hufflepuff. Ms. Goldwood you don't seem to like the potion. Care to explain why?" Julietta made her way to the potion before picking it up and pouring it down the drain. She stood in front of the shocked eyes of her peers and addressed them "Powerful infatuations can be induced by the skillful potioneer, but never yet has anyone managed to create the truly unbreakable, eternal, unconditional attachment that alone can be called Love. The person under the effect of the potion will only hold an obsession for the person who administered it. This obsession can cause them to do crazy and irrational things. It's dangerous to underestimate a powerful infatuation Professor."
Slughorn's eyes glazed over as if he was thinking deeply about her words. He shook his head to focus himself, clearly dismissing the mere thought. "Right you are Miss Goldwood. Though next time I would appreciate it if you didn't pour away a great teaching resource. Now would anyone like to tell me what they smelt." A student raised her hand and said: "I smelt my Mum's fresh cookies, car fumes, and morning dew." More and more students began declaring what smelt like heaven to them until only Julietta and Tom were left.
Tom leaned so close to her ear she could almost feel his teeth touching her skin when he whispered "I smelt you, power and the chamber. I desire nothing else." Julietta gulped as Toms warm breathe got further and further away until he was in his original position. "I smelt you, animals and my siblings. What does power smell like Thomas?" mumbled Julietta so quietly that only Tom could hear her sweet voice. In this moment he doubted he would ever hear something so wonderful in his life. Not even being told he was a wizard gave him as much fulfillment as the words that fell from her soft lips.
"Power smells like expensive velvet dripping with the blood of my enemies." he hissed and clasped Julietta's hand even tighter. Now that he had her he didn't plan on letting her go. If anyone wanted her they would have to pry his cold dead fingers from her arm. She knew this and she had accepted it. His possessiveness was something she could not stop. Nor did she want to stop it. She didn't plan on changing Tom Riddle. He wasn't the possessive type but at the end of the day, whatever belongs to him, belongs to him, end of story. He had great plans for the two of them. As he saw it he was the king, she was going to be his queen and they would build an empire together.
"What are you two whispering about back there?" asked Slughorn causing the entire class to stare at them. Tom's hand quickly unwound itself from Julietta's hand. Thankfully no one noticed the quick movements under the table. Now their hands sat far apart on the table. "We were discussing the Lethifold that lives near one of my holiday houses in Papua New Guinea. Why would you like to join the expedition we will be doing this summer to try and find it? We would be happy to have you come along professor. An old family friend and his daughters will be coming along as well." Everyone took the excuse as the truth because they saw no reason for it to be a lie. "Well I won't be going on that adventure but thank you for the offer," he said, only denying the offer because a Lethifold was a class XXXXX magical creature.
It glides along surfaces in an unknown form of locomotion in search of its prey, humans. It attacks at night, when the target is asleep, by suffocating and then digesting it. The only effective protection against a Lethifold is a patronus charm. This means it could be closely related to a dementor. Other spells such as disarming spells will not work against it as is so with a dementor. This had Slughorn shaking in fear of the possibility of meeting a creature so deadly and vile. Slughorn was not brave by any means so he dropped the subject soon enough. The two walked out of the room without another question being asked.
"You know Thomas you are stubborn. You hate being touched. You don't like many people. You have hair nearly as black as you want people to think your heart is. You feel the need to control everything and everyone around you so you won't get hurt. Some people see you as a monster but I don't. I know you think you are hard to love. I am not leaving. You don't need to hold my hand so tight in fear I will float away. I am right here Thomas." Julietta said while standing in front of him in the empty hallway. She gently touched his hand before leading him to their next class.
