Wait what? Hold up, did she really just say partners? As in dancing at the same time or as in partner moves and all that? By the faces of my fellow dancers I can guess they had the same kind of questions in their minds.
While looking around I locked eyes with Sean and couldn't seem to look away. The silence of the room didn't help so to break our little stare down Sean decided to wink, in turn making me shake my head and chuckle.
Charlize slowly raised her hand looking unsure. "Yes Char?"
"Um, Tricia, what exactly do you mean partner dancing?", the question put us all at ease, knowing that we weren't going to have to ask.
"Partner dancing, as in guys dancing with girls, partner moves, stunts and all." Tricia repplied slightly confused.
The ten of us exchanged wide eyed looks before Tricia continued " We will work out your partners tomorrow but for now you are dismissed". Great we don't even get a choice in partner. I along with the girls scurried over to one corner of the room where our bags were left.
"Wow, now we have to dance with them!" Tahani whisper yelled, the hurry inwhich she collected her stuff really reflected how worried she was. I struggled to hide my laugh, having to cover my mouth with my hand.
"What's so funny?" Tati raised her eyebrow.
"Well at least you get to talk to them!" I tried lifting their mood which didn't seem to work that well. I pulled my jumper over the sports bra I was wearing and stood waiting on the girls.
Bailey was the next one to be ready, swinging a jacket over her shoulder, " That's the problem Kayc, you can't do a good partner dance with someone you have never spoken a word to"
"I think we have an idea how to change that", all of us picked up our stuff and turned to see the boys standing behind us, all set to go.
"Huh?", Charlize questioned, being the least intimidated of the boys.
"We" said Sean gesturing his arms towards himself and his friends " thought that, since we will have to be partners, it would be a great idea to get to know one another. So we formally invite you to spend the remaining hour of school time with us at Boba." I wanted to cry at how funny the 'formally invite you' part sounded.
Turning towards the four girls I saw their conflicted and awkward faces, so I decided to take matters into my own hands. I looked back at the boys who were awaiting a response and mimicked Sean's actions.
"We" I said gesturing to my still confused friends, "formally agree to your formal invitation to the Boba cafe". It was silent for a few seconds until Sean and I burst out laughing. Sean high fived me, "Teamwork right there".
"Wait, are you serious?" Will asked.
"Yes"
"Kaycee!" Tahani nudged my side. Her, Bailey and Tati had really scared looks on their faces.
"Come on guys! Don't you want these duets to work out?"
It took a few moments for the girls to agree, making all the boys cheer.
"Great persuasion skills", Sean's voice whispered dangerously close to my ear. "Thanks" was all I managed to breathe out.
Somehow I ended up racing Josh to the door, I didn't win. He opened the door saying "Ladies first" and bowing slightly, I turned to look at Gabe, " Come on Gabriel, Josh here is holding the door for you.
My attempts at diffusing the tension had payed off, as everyone laughed and I was practically carried out the door first by Gabe.
We made small talk on the was to Boba, which was about 15 minutes away, boys making lame jokes and girls slowly getting to know the real boy squad.
Once again I was raced to the door but this time by Kenneth, I still lost.
Inside we found a table in the back corner and I ended up being squished between Ken and Josh on one side, with Will at the end of the table and all the girls sitting opposite me. Despit my attempts to reach the empty seat by Tati, I was stuck and partially pinned to my seat by both of the boys' arms being aroud my shoulders. Everybody found the situation extremely funny, the girls being great friends they are, made no attempt to help me and laughed along with everyone else.
Will came back after ordering our drinks and suggested we play a game to get to know one another.
"Any ideas?" He asked. Bailey almost jumpedin her seat, apparently having the idea Will was looking for, " How about twenty questions going around the table" everyone agreed on the game as well as the fact that Bailey should begin.
"Alright.."
