PART ONE

The air was chilly as it bashed against the young teenager who huddled against a wall trying to retain his body heat. It was rainy also but despite the water that dripped from the sky, the boy wasn’t wet. His fingers rapped against a wooden door, trying to get the attention of whoever lived inside. His face was bloody and his eyes were swollen and bruised.

The door flung open only to reveal an older-looking teenager. He glanced down at the ragged young teen, a sigh escaping from his lips. The older teen knelt in front of the younger boy before he helped him to his feet. He ushered both the boy and himself inside the warmth of the apartment. He shut the door behind them, locking it in place before escorting the injured teen to the loungeroom.

“Honestly, Percy,” the older one sighed as he sat the young teen on a sofa. “You can’t keep doing this.”

“It wasn’t my fault, Octavian,” Percy muttered as a blanket was wrapped around his shoulders.

Octavian shook his head, grabbing his first aid kit from under the coffee table beside the sofa. He pulled out a cloth and begun to dab at the blood on the young teenager’s face.

“Maybe it wasn’t,” he told Percy. “But you can’t keep running to me, expecting me to fix everything.”

Octavian put the bloodied cloth on the table before rummaging through his first aid kit. There, he pulled out a tube of antiseptic cream. Octavian uncapped the tube before squeezing a dollop of the cream on his finger. He applied the cream to Percy’s face, Percy flinching due to the coldness. The scratches on Percy’s face was then covered by band-aids.

“There you go,” Octavian said to the young boy. “I’ll grab you some warm clothes and a drink.”

Percy nodded his head. “Thanks, Tavy,” he muttered. “Thanks so much.”

Octavian shrugged his shoulders before heading to the kitchen. He made Percy a cup of hot chocolate and grabbed some chocolate biscuits to go with it. Octavian placed the drink and biscuits on the table beside Percy before heading into his room and after a quick search, he brought a set of warmer clothes out to the boy.

Percy smiled at Octavian. “Thanks again,” he said before taking a sip of the hot chocolate. “I really don’t know what to do without you.”

Octavian shook his head. “Have you thought of breaking up with her?” he asked Percy. “Annabeth doesn’t deserve someone like you.”

“But we’ve been together for three years,” Percy said, defensively. “I can’t just leave her.”

“If she going to keep damaging you then you should leave her.”

Percy blinked, his gaze dropping to the ground. “That’s what everyone says,” he mumbled. “But I still love her.”

Octavian knelt in front of him. “I’ll come with you,” he suggested. “In a few days’ time if you want?”

Percy nodded. “Thanks, Tavy,” he said as he pulled on Octavian’s hooded jumper. “I would like it if you came with.”

“One thing though,” Octavian began. “What was it this time?”

Percy laughed. “My mum made me chocolate eggs for Easter,” he said. “Annabeth was jealous as she didn’t get anything.”

Octavian scoffed. “She doesn’t even like chocolate,” he said, furrowing his eyebrows. “Why would she be jealous?”

Percy shrugged. “She gets mad at everything now,” he admitted. “It used to only be big things like the apartment always being messy but now it’s just everything in general.”

A yawn escaped from Octavian’s lips. “You can stay here for now,” he told Percy. “Sleep on the sofa or in my bed.”

Percy rolled his eyes. “You steal all the blankets and the bed,” he said. “And it’s a king bed too.”

“If that’s what you want to think.” Octavian got up from the floor. “I’ll see you in the morning,” he said to the young teenager before heading to his room, climbing into his bed.

However, he was awake enough to register Percy climbing beside him in the bed.
