Darkness surrounded the boy as the cold air nipped his body causing it to shiver despite the warm clothing he wore. The streetlights flickered on and off, the bulbs of illumination were dimmed, creating the situation the boy was in to be much worse. He jogged down the street, glancing backwards, making sure he wasn’t being followed. The coins in his pocked jingled as he continued his way home. The boy spun around a corner, slipping on an object that was in his path. His body crashed to the ground, hands scraping across the concrete to slow down his fall. The heart is his chest thumped rapidly and his head ached due to the fall. The boy began to pick himself back up but something heavy pressed against his back, forcing him back to the dirty ground. Chuckles and gruff voices were picked up by his ears as he laid against the concrete, struggling to remove the weight off him.

“Explain to me again,’ a voice began in a whispered tone. “Why this is such a good idea.”
A groan was released by someone else. “You realise who this kid is?” he questioned his partner. “This boy will make us a ton of money.”
“He’s more likely to get us thrown in jail,” the first person said.
“No one asked you to come along, J,” the other person snapped.
J huffed. “I couldn’t let you hurt anyone,” he muttered. “After what happened last time-“

A slap echoed in the silence and J let out a whimper. The weight on the boy was released. He sprung to his feet and began to run however, the one who slapped J, fisted his jumper’s hood. The boy was shoved against a wall, the taller and buffer of the two caging him. The other, J, who looked about the victim’s age, was rubbing his cheeks, tears in his eyes.

“I told you this was the right boy, J,” said the guy who pinned the boy. “This is Percy Jackson.”
It was too dark for Percy to make out any of guy’s features. All he knew was that this guy was strong, and his breath smelt of smoke.
“H-how do you know my name?” Percy stuttered as the guy pressed further into him.
He chuckled in the boy’s face. “Everyone knows who you are,” he said. “You aren’t exactly off the radar.”
“But-“
Smoke Breath grabbed Percy’s face. “Stop asking stupid questions,” he said. “You know why we know your name now cut it out.”

It was true that Percy knew why. He was after all the president’s son. How they knew that, after he’d cut his hair and changed into regular clothes, Percy didn’t know.

“Stop treating him like crap,” J spoke to his partner. “He’s only sixteen.”
“Yeah and sixteen-year-olds are the worst,” J’s partner muttered. “I have to spend every day with you.”
J crossed his arms over his chest. “Whatever you say, L,” he grumbled. “It’s not like I want to be here anyways.”
L tightened his grasp on Percy’s face. “Then why are you here?” He asked J. “No one asked you to follow me like a puppy dog.”

Percy decided to ask L if he was going to release him. However, L dug his nails into Percy’s tanned face.

“Not until you make me money,” he growled into his ear. “Only then, I’ll let you go.”

Percy began to squirm again, his feet lashing out, trying to loosen the assailant’s grip. L pressed Percy further against the wall, stooping the teenager from using his legs as well as his arms. J came up behind his partner and began tugging his arm off Percy’s face.

“Stop it,” he said. “Stop hurting him otherwise no money will come to you.”
L let go of Percy, who crumbled to the ground. “Fine, but you owe me later,” he said to his partner before his boot connected with Percy’s stomach. “How do we take this one?”

J rolled his eyes as he looked at the teenager sprawling on the ground, clutching his stomach in pain.

“Get the car,” he told L. “I’ll talk to Percy.”
