'I saved your life!' I exclaimed as my reddish-brown eyes glared into stormy grey ones.
'You pushed me off a building!' the owner of the eyes yelled back. She was a short thing with messy, blonde hair and clothes that hung off her thin frame. 'I got injured.'
Fiery anger swelled in my stomach as my hands clenched into fists. I'd been out on my nightly patrol and had stumbled upon a scorching, smoky building. Fire never bothered me, due to being fireproof, so of course my first instinct was to search the wreckage for the living.
That's where I'd discovered the girl, on one of the higher floors, huddled in a corner with a blanket tossed over her body. She was shaking, and her breath was raspy. The floors were falling apart and with the exit blocked, there was only one option of escape: smashing the window and shoving her out. Admittingly, the fire had yet to reach the top level, but going upwards would've involved the same outcome. At least she'd escaped with a few minor burns and a broken arm. Without me, the red hotness would have consumed her.
'You're a brat,' I said to her. 'A broken arm is nothing.'
'I'm Annabeth,' she snapped.
'And I'm Superman,' was my response, added with a shrug.
I walked away from her. Every moment I spent arguing with Annabeth put another human in danger. The kid would just have to build a bridge and get over it.
