why would i , hwang hyunjin ,
play with your feelings ?

that day , mrs seo suddenly
entered our classroom with
a set of test papers .

" this is the mock test that
i gave you all last week ,
all of you scored pretty well...
except for some " she
announced .

i heard some people groan

" let's give a round of
applause to your class
monitor who scored the
highest !! he got 48/50 !! "

i think it was pretty
obvious how shocked i
was , i started clapping along
with everyone until they
all looked at me .

" what ? " i asked .

" it's you dumbass "
i heard you chuckle .

after you said that , i
suddenly felt proud of
myself . after all , i did
study all night for this
mini test .

i walked up to the front
of the class and they
were all still clapping for
me , so i said jokingly ,

" it's an honour for me
to receive all this love and
appreciation from y'all
as the class monitor . thank
you all oh so very much "

they all laughed , and it
felt pretty good .

mrs seo continued giving
out the test papers
according to the highest
marks to the lowest .

i waited for your name to
be called so i could cheer
for you like how you did
for me .

name after name , and you
were still not called out .

i saw the worried look on
your face and i myself
started to feel nervous
for you .

" kwon ara " mrs seo
finally called .

i didn't hear what she
was telling you but i
saw her put her arm
around you and also
pat you gently on the
back .

i noticed the disappointment
on your face , and i knew you
were going to break down any
minute .

throughout the class , i kept
turning around to glance at
you ; to make sure you were
doing fine .

it was recess time after that,
and i saw jisung trying to
cheer you up ... but you won't
budge .

" just go on first without me,
i'll meet you in the canteen later "
you told minho and jisung .

they both nodded and got
out of the homeroom .

and then it was only you
and me left in the class .

we made eye contact and
smiled at each other .

" thank you for being
supportive for me earlier "
i approached you slowly .

" congratulations on your
good marks ! guess your
hard work paid off " you
replied cheekily .

but i knew

that smile was fake

i could tell

and then i held your hand
which was on your table ,
slowly starting to caress it .

" and how did you do ? "
i asked gently .

" i did ... okay ... i guess ... "

i immediately
pulled you in for a hug .

" let it all out , i'm
here for you "

and you started weeping
in my embrace . i held
you tighter and i could
feel your body melting
into mine as every muscle
lost it's tension to the
spring air .

sometimes a silent hug
is the only thing to say
