We were now on our way home. After the incident Matt insisted that we didn't stay in school and I wasn't disagreeing. Come on, it was an opportunity to skip classes. Plus, I was still on the way to getting over the said incident.
What if Matt hadn't reached there in time?
Would the man have killed me? Or kidnapped me? Or kidnap me to then kill me?
"Tell me what you're thinking" Matt gently put his hand on my thigh, bringing me back into reality. His eyes were trained on the road but I know he was regarding my every move.
"The man said that he didn't know why 'he' wanted me. Do you think he was referring to the Demon Lord?"
Matt removed his hand from me as he turned into the dirt road to the pack house. He made no attempt to answer me, keeping his face stoic. Just by his attitude, though, I got my answer. He wouldn't want to scare me with the horrid truth. I don't know if I should be grateful or angry.
I dropped the topic. I didn't want to speak about it anymore, even though we didn't have a proper conversation about it. Let's just not talk about it. Or think about it at all.
Sleep. Yes, sleep was calling me; my best friend. I didn't want to think about anything any longer and sleep was the solution, to just forget all my problems for a while.
Matt pulled up in front the pack house and we came out the car. May and I basically lived at the pack house since the ceremony. Since Matt became Alpha he has been busy with all these pack business and responsibilities so he couldn't come to my place and he didn't want me so far from him.
"Luna!" Elijah shouted out, running towards me and hugging my leg as we approached the castle.
"Hello Elijah" I pulled him away and immediately gasped at the sight I saw.
Elijah's left cheek had a fresh bruise and his lip was burst open. The kid still had tear stains on his cheeks that told me this happened just a few minutes ago.
"Elijah what happened? Did somebody hurt you?" I stooped to his level and asked him softly, wiping some of the blood that was about to flow from his lip.
He hiccupped as fresh tears started running down his cheeks. He softly wiped them and then looked at Matt. His eyes showed fear as he looked at his Alpha. That was weird because the pack members adored Matt. Yeah he was scary at times but it was justified. He would never hurt someone without reason. Why was Elijah scared?
"Who did this to you?" Matt asked the kid. I internally rolled my eyes at his tone. The child was already scared and he wasn't making it any better with his I-am-Alpha-you-listen-to-me tone.
"It-" Elijah hiccupped, "It was Beta Nathan" Elijah fumbled out and my eyes widened and I instantly turned to Matt. Nathan was given the title of a Beta for the pack to show respect to him but he wouldn't do something like this.
This was a kid. Nathan knew that werewolves don't change until they're sixteen, why would he hurt a child knowing he can't heal himself? Or hurt a child on the whole?
"Are you sure it was Beta Nathan?" Matt asked, his voice even more firm than before.
"Yes Alpha" Elijah dropped his head "But it was my fault. He was on the phone and was looking very angry talking about someone being dead. I wanted to know if it was someone from the house so I asked him and he got even madder that I was listening and hit me."
Someone was dead? I looked at Matt and his eyes were several shades darker than usual. He was angry. He knew as much as I did that this wasn't the kid's fault, but Nathan's.
