I walked to the door, and saw two very tall large men standing in front of me, both in suits. "I'm Katherine Walker." I said uneasily.
"Ma'am I'm Agent Luther and this is my partner Agent Vane, we're with the FBI. We'd like to ask you a few questions, are your parents around? We need them to be here while we question you because you're only 17."
"My mom's at work, but I'm emancipated so you can ask me what you need without her here." I gulped. They glanced at Nathan as if they were asking if he were okay to hear the conversation. "He's fine, he can stay." I said, confused as to what they wanted. "What is this about?" I asked, letting them inside. We all walked to the table and sat down, Nathan sitting beside me.
"We're investigating the murder of Carter O'Ryan and-" before agent Luther could continue Nathan jumped in, cutting him off.
"I thought that was ruled an accident?" He asked, and I frowned thinking the same thing.
"Initially it was, but the local police department looked further into it and found that it was infact a murder. Someone ran Carter off the road purposely so we we're brought in to take over since the police have no idea why or who would want Carter dead." Agent Vane said, eyeing Nathan.
"So what does this have to do with Katharine? Obviously she didn't do it." Nathan said, getting defensive. I grabbed his hand under the table and he looked at me surprised. I was really nervous and confused as to why they were questioning me. I wanted to get my mom, but it would just cause more stress for her and stress isn't good for her condition. Having Nathan with me made me feel a lot better.
"We're just trying to get more information on what happened that night." Agent Luther said. I looked at Nathan and he gave me a look, as if saying I didn't have to answer any of their questions. "Miss. Walker, we understand you were involved with Carter, is that correct?"
"I-I" I didn't know what to say to that. I was getting more uncomfortable by the second. "I use to be.. a few years ago. I haven't had any relationship with him since he was first arrested." I bit my lip, glancing away from the agents. I didn't want Amber to hear any of this, I was just hoping she takes long showers. I looked back to see the officers looking at each other with a weird look, as if they didn't believe me.
"Miss. Walker, when we searched Carter's apartment we found... a lot of photos of you. He had pictures of you in your apartment, at school, at the mall. Are you not aware of him ever taking pictures of You?"
"What? No of course not. I didn't even know he was out of jail until about 2 weeks ago when he randomly showed up at my school auction."
"We know what happened between the two of you, and your brother, a few years ago. Why would he be here in New York and why would he go to your school?" Agent Vane asked, clearly not believing that I didn't have a relationship with Carter anymore. Nathan was about to say something but I stopped him.
"You said he had pictures of me? Like in my apartment? He was stalking me?" I asked, feeling disgusted. I looked around my loft uncomfortably.
"Unfortunately, yes. I know this must be disturbing, I'm very sorry." Agent Luther apologised. "We just need to know if he tried to contact you or if he ever showed up anywhere trying to hurt you, or anyone else."
"Carter left me a note, threatening me that he was going to get revenge on me at prom." I said, glancing at Nathan.
"You don't have to tell them anything." Nathan said, looking at me. I shook my head at him.
"It's fine. He stole my friend, Jason, phone and texted me as Jason to meet him outside. When I got there it was Carter, and he beat me up, saying this was his revenge for putting him in jail. Nathan caught him and ran over, but Carter had already ran away. After that we-" I didn't tell them about him stabbing me because I didn't want to involve Nathan's uncle. He could get in trouble for treating me at his practice secretly and not reporting a stabbing wound.
"We went to my friend Kyle's house for the night, and then we got a plane ticket to go to California for spring break. I have the ticket receipt still to prove that's where we were." Nathan finished. I was greatful that he was here with me.
"We had nothing to do with the accident, or murder." I said uneasily, "We didn't even know until we saw it on the news." I heard the water from the bathroom turn off, and I stood up. "If you have any more questions you can call me at his number." I handed them a paper with my number in it. "But I need you to leave now, it's not a good time to discuss anything further." I said walking to the door and letting them out.
"We'll be in touch." Agent Vane said before they both left. I shut the door just as Amber walked out the bathroom.
"What happened in here?" She asked, looking at the broken bowl on the floor.
"I dropped the bowl. I'll be right back, I need some air." I lied and walked to the balcony, closing the door. Nathan followed me out. I turned to Nathan, tears threatening to spill.
"What am I going to do? What if they think I did it?" I said worriedly.
"Don't worry, they don't. We have a tight aliby, and besides you didn't do it anyway." He said, rubbing my arms. He pulled me into a hug and I hugged him back tightly. "Its going to be fine." He whispered.
