Vena's POV

James stares back at me as I wait for him to continue. He doesn't.

"I don't know about you, but I don't find this amusing, like at all," I warn him.

He looks at me, his slightly twisting to annoyance, "Fine, fine what ever."

"Wait who's Humphry?" That's a name I've never heard before.

"A dude from the Vultures."

I nod and step from one foot to the other as my legs begin to hurt from standing.

"Anyways, so she didn't want to take any chances. So, that's why Kamer showed up. You have to know that I never would've left if it wasn't deathly important."

I shake my head, "That doesn't make any sense, if you're hiding out here than what's stopping them from going after me or anyone else you care about?"

He smiles, "You know, I thought that too. I know that if they were to come after anyone, it would be you. Although, you have nothing to worry about. One of my demands of helping Autumn is certainty that you would be protected."

My jaw drops only slightly, "What? What are you saying?"

"I'm saying that no one is able to hurt you."

My eyes widen. "James is one of these weirdos stalking me?!"

He sighs, tipping his head back for a moment before coming back. "No, no, not like that. Samuel just keeps tabs on you. It's not like he's following you around of the streets."

I shake my head. I can't believe this. James literally has someone stalking me. This is ridiculous. This is absolute bullshit.

"That's really fucking creepy, James!" I shout at him.

He stands up, "Vena, I'm just trying to keep you safe!"

I narrow my eyes at him, "Keep me safe? Are you kidding me? You must me. Your care to keep me safe went out the window when you started this shit with Autumn!"

He shakes his head, "You know that is not true. I do everything in my power to put you first but sometimes I have to make choices."
I throw my hands up, "Yes, you have to make choices that I am unaware about. You know maybe if you told me about that attack, I wouldn't be so pissed off right now!"

He shakes his head furrowing his eyebrows at me. "Vena, you are not hearing me. I know you, I know that if I did tell you about that you'd worry and you'd live in fear."

"I already live in fear for you, James."

"No, not like that." He stares back at me with all seriousness.

I cross my arms over my chest. My heart is pounding in my chest so loudly that I'm sure he can hear it.

"Listen, I'm sorry. I should've told you more, I just didn't know how."

I jot my head up to look at him, "It's not hard to use your words."

"I tried calling you, but you wouldn't pick up."

I shake my head, an angry grin on my face, "Oh no, no you don't. Don't you dare do that. You and I both know that I called you enough times that it's safe to say that you weren't picking up."

He looks down at the floor, by his feet. "I don't know how to make this better."

I shake my head, anger building up a lot faster than I anticipated. "Maybe we shouldn't." I turn around before I can see his face.

"Vena, I—"

I take one brisk step and open the door, striding out. I slam the door behind me, but only seconds later I hear it open again. My hands shake as wrath treads through my blood, my nerves and my bones.
