Walls

8 2 1

Bricks are heavy

And laid thick

With long hardened mortar

Oozing out from between the joins

Man's manufactured rock

Stacked high

And placed about our feet

Encircling our soft flesh

A flue is left for air

A dark circle, open to the sky

A required vulnerability...

In our defenses

Ice and fire

Make wrath upon the brick

But are useless

In the breaching

Love and desire

Think they know the trick

Hammer and chisel

Wielded by our heart's beating

May that mortar crumble!

And bricks carefully fall

Let us come into the light

Our faith begins to crawl

May that mortar shatter

And bricks fade to dust

Our feet free to stutter

Our insecurities beset by rust

And in those ruins of red and grey

With our walls crumbled away

We'll hold each other close

A new foundation for a new day
