"Spirits of Air, Earth, Fire, and Sea
Converge together, set thy angel free
From my tongue, I send this rhyme
In hopes that my offering appeases time
Cast aside morals, see what is near
Make a quick judgment, bring death here

On the way to Steph's house, I couldn't help but think how out of the norm this situation was for me. I was never the type of person to go over someone's place that I had just met, let alone stay the night. When it came down to it though, Steph hadn't done anything to lose my trust. She seemed friendly enough and what I needed in my life was a partner-in-crime. My childhood best friend had moved away before I started high school, which resulted in the ridicule from Joe increasing tenfold and me being alone left to my own destructive thoughts. I no longer had a security blanket to fall back onto or anyone to confide in and what I could use most was someone to be there.
As I rode with Steph in her car, Joes final words to me replayed in my ear. "You're pain, will be my pleasure." Emotions welled up inside me. I could still feel the marks he had left on me throughout the years. Though time had healed the visual sight of them, the pain was ingrained into my subconscious, haunting me with the ghosts of my past. I glanced over to the driver's seat next to me.
Her appearance in my life was like all my hopes being answered at once. She was exactly what I needed to help remind me of the person that I was aiming to be. A carefree spirited soul, one who didn't take shit from anyone. That used to be who I was but unfortunately years of abuse and people not believing you can really change a person. That was one of many reasons why Joe needed to go. I refused to let myself be the victim any longer and if it wasn't me I could almost guarantee there'd be someone else.
The sudden change of song, brought me back to the reality around me. Steph shrieked from excitement and grabbed the steering wheel slightly shaking it.
"I have been thinking about everything we can get into. I seriously have so many awesome ideas I could poop from excitement!" Steph was fidgeting in her seat, which only seemed to get me even more pumped for tonight. It had been longer than I cared to admit since I spent the night at someone else's house.
It wasn't much later until we pulled into a long and winding paved driveway. As my eyes followed the path, they stopped on one of the most gorgeous houses I had ever seen. It was a tall brick house with two white pillars that mirrored each other on either side of the front porch. The garden in front of the house was beautifully manicured and there was even a fountain in the middle of it. The statue in the fountain was unlike any I had ever seen before. It had three snakes entwined towards the heavens, and from holes in their mouths water trickled down.
Steph looked over and must've noticed what my vision was locked onto. "Snakes are actually a part of my family crest. The snake represents starting a new chapter in life and every time it sheds it allows the snake to grow, and heal any wounds it may have acquired. Sadly they are one of the most misunderstood and misrepresented creatures."
"Well, I've always really liked them" I piped in. "My cousin used to have a few of them as pets when I was growing up. I think if people were more educated on them; they wouldn't be hated as much as they are. People just need to get their heads out of the sand. If you're going to love animals, you can't just love the ones that are furry." I ranted.
