I apologize for the delayed update. I've been away in NY (where I'm originally from) for the week visiting my family and friends. Without further ado here's the next chapter 😊

Bodies pushed passed me as I struggled to maintain my balance and avoid falling and getting trampled. My eyes scanned the room, hoping that I would catch a glimpse of Steph in the chaos. People were running around in different directions as screams of confusion and panic filled my ears.

I shoved people away from me, making my own path as I contorted my body in order to fit through the masses, and head for the last spot that I had seen her.

Hands gripped my shoulders and spun me around. "What are you doing?" Erik shouted at me over the screams of others as his worried eyes bore into my own.

"I'm looking for my friend."

He shook his head and grabbed onto my wrist, pulling me toward the exit. "We need to get out of here. Some girl just got killed!"

I stopped in my tracks and my heart sank deep into the pit of my stomach. "You don't understand I can't leave without her. What if something happened to her? I need to make sure she's alright."

"Mia, don't be ridiculous. I'm sure she's fine. We can get somewhere safe and you can call her then."

I stepped away from him, removing his grasp on me. "Thank you for tonight but I'm not leaving without my friend."

He ran a hand through his hair, looked to the ceiling and muttered under his breath. I took this as my cue to slip away while he was distracted and made my way towards an opening.

I continued to walk deeper into the crowd and swiveled my head, scanning the area for my friend. Between the tightly packed bodies, a gruesome sight caught my eye.

There on the floor, only a few feet away from me, lay the body of a girl who I recognized from earlier in the night.

She lay in a pool of blood, in the middle of a circle of people all staring down at her, her body a bloody mess as I took in the now fresh knife wound across her neck and her stained clothing. A police officer knelt at her side as he scanned over the scene and reported his findings over his radio.

I stood there staring at her corpse and felt panic take over as thoughts of my own possible demise enveloped me. My head began to pound and I heaved in a deep breath to help calm my now pounding heart.

Turning away from the grizzly scene, my steps became staggered and nausea swirled in my stomach as I overheard some of the details the police officer reported on his radio.
