Steph and I walked carefully back to her car, retracing our steps to assure we didn't get lost.

My brain consumed by possibilities, I wasn't sure if everything that I had experienced had been reality or an act of my imagination. The images seemed too real. Details too precise; the sounds and smells too vivid.

And that lingering just kissed feeling on my lips. The what if's plagued my mind.

When we reached the parking lot, Steph opened the trunk of her car and handed me some dry clothes. I quickly slipped a baggy sweatshirt and some sweatpants on, which I then rolled up to avoid dragging them on the ground.

As we both got in her car and closed the doors, silence surrounded us. Steph sighed and turned to me, studying me with her eyes, hoping to possibly find some sort of answer.

"Look...I'm not going to pressure you into telling me anything. I just want you to know that whatever happens, I'm here for you and I will always do my best to help you...no matter the situation." She turned on the car and cranked up the heat since the temperature outside had begun to drop. "I can tell by the look on your face and your body language that something is off."

Rightfully so. It wasn't every day that your supposedly dead stepbrother came and haunted your unconscious mind. Or had I been conscious? At this point, it felt as if it was becoming harder to distinguish between fact and fiction.

"Steph I don't even know where to begin. I just...I feel like I'm going crazy. Half the stuff that happened doesn't even seem real...let alone possible."

"That's the thing with life Mia. Oftentimes things are unexplainable, especially in my line of work and expertise. Who better than me to not judge you?"

"You're right." I smiled back at her. "Let me just collect my thoughts and I'll try and explain everything."

She nodded, stretched her hand towards the radio, and pushed the power button on. Music filled our ears and I felt myself begin to relax. As the next song that played came to an end, the local news blared across the station.
