My body became numb from all of the pain. I cried out in agony and helplessness, fearing that this would be the end for me. That I would never see my family or friends again. Knowing that I had failed in helping Death capture Joe. Images of my life flashed before my eyes.

No.

I was done being the victim.

I opened my eyes and used every last ounce of strength, fighting against the force that weighed down on my body, and pushed the woman a few feet away from me. The ground shook violently and the air surrounding me became charged with energy. Far away voices filled my ears; whispers that I had only heard in dreams.

The woman's eyes grew wide and she
backed away from me, scanning the room. "What's going on?", she screamed and fixed her vision on me. Slowly, she took a step in my direction. "What have you done?"

Pieces of rubble began to fall before us and she took another step towards me. Her eyes began to lose all color as both of them slowly were consumed by blackness.

I raised my voice in the hopes of sounding intimidating. Maybe I could buy myself some time in case someone comes looking for me. "Stop! Don't come any closer."

The woman chuckled and took another step towards me. "Pretty silly little thing," she said enunciating every word. "Don't you know that resisting is foolish? It'll only make this experience all the more painful." A long forked tongue eased out of her mouth and licked her bottom lip. "Granted that means more enjoyment for me."

My mind danced the delicate line between fight or flight with every step she took. The energy around us was charged with the anticipation of the outcome. Would I walk out of here alive? Would she splatter me on the ground like the human bug I was? Would someone come before it was too late?

A large piece of the ceiling fell onto the ground next to us, causing her to look over at the rubble.

This was it. This was the moment that I had to react.

Before I could convince myself otherwise, I lunged towards her and jumped on her back, pushing both of our bodies towards the floor. We hit the ground with an impact and I quickly adjusted my weight and placed my legs on her arms and held her down by her head and neck.

"What do you think you're doing?" She screamed like a madwoman. My grip around her neck tightened and she coughed out, "You'll pay for this you insolent fool!"

"I've heard enough and you're in no position to be making threats," I said, trying to accent my voice with confidence.

She bellowed out a hoarse laugh that sent shivers up my spine. "No matter." A malicious grin spread across her face. "You are too late to stop them anyways."
