"Piperrrrrrrr." I groaned, after she splashed a bucket of water on me.
"I've been trying to wake you up for the past ten minutes Repair Boy." She replied.
"It's too early." I moaned, blocking the sun's glare with my hand.
"Do you even have any idea what time it is right now?" She put her hands on her hips.
"No, do you?" I sassed.
"No, but I do know that the sun is up and that equals 'wake up, get off your ass, and start your day of demigod drama." She replied.
"Valid point, I'll take it." I got up painfully.
My foot still hurt, but it wasn't as bad as yesterday. Perks of being a child of a god.
"So, what's the itinerary for today Beauty Queen?" I asked, stretching.
"We keep walking until we find someone. I mean, we know that the others are here so we might as well regroup." She replied.
"Ugh, I hate walking." I groaned.
"Well, suck it up Buttercup." She said.
"You're starting to sound a lot like Coach Hedge, and I'm 92% sure that's not a good thing." I grinned with the memories of our baseball bat-wielding crazy companion.
"Haha, very funny Valdez." She smiled. "Let's go."
We started to walk in silence. The sky was a pure shade of blue; there wasn't a cloud in the sky. There were no sounds even though we were in a wooded area. It was creeping me out. The quiet-ness in the air was deafening.
"So, is it just me or do you feel the overwhelming creepy-ness in the air too?" I asked, fiddling with a wrench.
"It's not just you, there's a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach right now too." Piper said cautiously.
Then we heard howling.
"Gotta love it when demigod superstitions are right." I whispered.
Piper started to walk in the direction in which the howling was coming from.
"Schist, Piper what do you think you're doing!" I whisper-yelled.
She held up a finger, silencing me. The sound was getting closer. She suddenly turned to her right and stopped. I looked in the direction she was gazing in. There was a stone piece that had a giant fox and dog-thing cemented together; they were snarling at each other. This looked familiar, I just couldn't put my finger on it. The animals were beautifully sculpted; so good that it looked real. When the howling sound came again the dog's mouth moved. The fox started snarling, and wiggling violently. Then it hit me.
"Piper, we NEED to go, like right now." I urged.
I grabbed her by the hand and started sprinting. I weaved through the mass of trees in the landscape. I heard a crushing sound behind me; they escaped. My foot hurt like Tartarus, but it was life or death (the Life of Leo Valdez, everyone). Usually it's not me who figures this stuff out, but there's a first for everything.
"What- what is going on?" Piper said breathlessly, running beside me now.
"Do you remember the myth about the Teumessian Fox and Laelaps?" I asked, while pushing through some vines.
"Nope." She replied.
"Any who," I started, out of breath. "The Teumessian Fox was a giant fox that was sent down to earth by the gods to wreak havoc on the countryside of Thebes as a punishment for something. I really don't know what exactly, I just know that it was probably something petty knowing the gods-"
"Leo." Piper cut in.
"Sorry, back to the story. This Fox was destined to never be caught. So then, Creon, a regent of Thebes, commanded Amphitryon destroy the Fox. He solved the problem by setting the magical dog Laelaps on the trail, since it was destined to always catch its prey. Long story short, Zeus was getting confused so he just decided to turn the pair into stone and made them into a constellation." I explained.
"Huh, interesting." She said.
To add onto the chaos we heard very, (and I mean VERY) off-key singing.
"Near, far, wherever you are. I believe that the heart does go on!"
I looked up to the sound, while panting.
"It's a bird!" I said.
"It's a plane!" Exclaimed Piper, who decided to play along.
"It's SUPERMAN!" I yelled. "Oh, save us, Jason Grace!"
He floated downward, keeping up with our pace. He was smiling.
"It's my favorite people!" He exclaimed.
"Do us a favor bro, and fly us out of here, will ya?" I smiled, as Piper and I came to a stop.
"Sure, anytime friends." He grinned, very weirdly.
He pushed a gust of wind under Piper and I's feet, and it slowly lifted us up.
"Could you hurry up a bit since we're ABOUT TO BE DEVOURED BY BLOODTHIRSTY ANIMALS." I stated.
"Well, you're not the one with the powers now are you?" Jason crossed his arms, defiantly.
"Jason, are you okay?" Asked Piper.
"Peachy, until Leo decided to bully me." He pouted.
"I did-"
"Now's not the time boys." Piper looked down.
The Fox and Dog's eyes were blood red. They tried to jump up to bite us. The Legion must've converted them into a untied killing machine with a common goal: to kill us.
"Schist." I mumbled, "Grace, please whoosh us away from their pearly whites!"
Then he (quite literally) 'whoosh-ed' us away with a gust of wind. I could see the landscape of sand coming closer in my view, as I barreled downward.
"Gods of Olympus please save me, I was always a good kid, okay, not really, but anyway, let me survive and I'll clean your godly toilets."
I braced for impact.
"I'm too young to die!" I cried
All of a sudden, water gushed up around me, as I slowly landed on the wet sand, with my eyes fully open.
"You're such an idiot Leo." Grinned Percy, shaking his head.
"And, nice to see you too Aqua-man." I smiled.
