Everything around me was dark. I don't know if I'm dead or not. I heard a faint beeping noise. Where am I? I thought to myself as I tried to open my eyes. No luck. They felt like sandbags were on them. I felt detached from my body. Like my spirit was roaming free while the rest of me was held down by gravity. Then I heard the faint beeping noise grow louder and faster followed by people yelling. I recognized Dad's voice. Dad. He sounded like he was crying. I told myself I can wake up. I forced my eyes to open.

Slowly, my eyes opened and the heart monitor slowed to a normal pace. Everyone in the room sighed. It sent shivers and chills down my spine. I looked around and the first person I saw was Dad. He smiled and stood beside my bed. His eyes were watery. My brow furrowed in concern. He took a deep breath.

"Y-you're dying, sweetie. I...I'm sorry. It's my fault. I'm the one who rigged that box that you opened. I'm so so sorry," Dad whispered softly.

I let that sink in. I'm dying? My eyes scanned myself. I looked normal and healthy! How could I be dying?! Then I saw it. The cut on my arm was oozing blood. I pointed it out.

"Um dad? Is that supposed to be happening?" I asked with a hint of fear in my voice

He looked at went white. Dad shook his head, ran out of the room, and came back in with nurses and the doctor. The nurses surrounded me and began to wheel me out. What's going on? They placed an oxygen mask on my face and I stared at the ceiling as the lights passed me. Then I looked to my left. My eyes grew wide at what I saw. Dad was on a stretcher beside me with an IV attached to him. He also had on an oxygen mask. We made eye contact and tears rolled down his face. What in the world is going on?! My face must have shown it since the doctor explained to me that Dad is the only matching blood type and he's giving me his blood. I asked what Dad will do. The doctor frowned and ignored me. I looked back at the ceiling. Will he give him different blood? I wondered. Then we turned right and another right through big doors. We stopped moving and I saw one big light shining in my face. They removed the mask and hooked me up to an IV. I started screaming and tried to get up. The nurses held me down.

"I don't care if I die! I just want dad to live!" I shouted as hot tears poured down my face.

"Michelle look at me!" Dad exclaimed. I stopped struggling and looked at him. He sighed, "I love you and that's why I doing this. I'm sorry about your past. I should've dealt with Austin a long time ago. Look, if I die, you get to take over Owl City. The rest of the gang knows. Including your mother and my manager."

I stared at him blankly. A wave of emotions swept through me. We made eye contact. His eyes were serious. I sighed heavily and stared at the light again. The doctor asked if we were ready. Dad and I both said we were. Then I felt a prick on my side and blacked out.
