"It's done". Yael said. His hands and shirt was covered in blood. Ozzie and I waited in another room. We didn't want to hear anymore of Alex's screams. We rose from our seats and went back into the storage room.
Alex was sitting in a chair. She was still feeling the pain of her nub. It was wrapped up in bloody bandages. I caught Howard throwing away a bloody trash bag. Alex struggled at first but managed to give us a smile and thumbs up.
"I'm ok". She insured. "Lets get to the boat". She rose to her feet uneasily. "Follow me, we need to get the engine".
She left the room with everyone following her. We all left throughout the store's back door.
We were still beside the ocean. You could see a dock far in the distance. If we were quiet and stayed behind buildings, the zombies wouldn't notice us.
While walking, I overheard Howard talking to Yael. "What if cutting her arm off didn't work?" He whispered. Yael rolled his eyes.
"The infection could've spread through her body before you cut off the arm". He added.
"The bite of a male moves slowly, there's no way it could spread pass her arm". Yael said firmly.
"I don't believe that, lets lose her now". Howard said. I walked up beside Howard.
"For once could you care about someone else but yourself". I snapped. Howard growled and walked away towards Rick.
We made it to the dock. Blood stained the wood and the water was a little murky. Only one boat floated in the water. It was the party boat they were talking about. It was in perfect shape. I wonder why nobody took this one when hell broke loose.
"Wait, I hid the engine". Alex said. "Lemme go get it". Alex left to go get the boat's engine. Moments later, she turned carrying a big heavy engine in her remaining arm.
Everyone tried to help but she shrugged us off. "I don't need your help". She fumed. "And don't think of me as a handicap". She pushed us aside and climbed into the boat.
It took several minutes but she got the boat started and we were riding into the sea.
The boat was awesome! It has a kitchen, one bedroom, and a bathroom! The boat was full of fruits and alcohol. (Rick and Tyler were happy about that). The boat also had a harpoon and fishing supplies which will come in handy. We all took showers then agreed that Yael and Alex are the captains.
Once everything was settled, we all quickly got bored. Rick, Tyler, and Tyreese stayed in the kitchen helping themselves to the drinks. Alex was still in the shower. Howard was watching the waves. Ozzie was taking a nap in the bedroom. I went into the main room where Yael was stirring the boat.
I gave him a cheerful smile. "We made it!" I cheered. Yael returned t he smile and laughed.
"All we gotta do is get pass Fort Pierce Inlet and we're home free!" He added.
It was overwhelming of how far we came. I was overjoyed. All the death and pain, we all escaped it thanks to this boat. We all will live at sea and every once and a while, we'd go back to shore. I wish Dennis and his mother could see this.
"We've lived in Florida all our lives and we've never been so close to the ocean". Yael said breaking me out of my thoughts.
"We came close one time remember?" I smiled raising a eyebrow.
When we were younger, we almost tricked our parents into buying us plane tickets to Miami. We got in so much trouble. It was totally worth it because we got allot of laughs out of it.
