Leola and Ozzie vs. The World

Chapter 47

We used Steve's car to get to the bar Josh was talking about. I didn't know why Steve went to the bar but I didn't want to ask. He was really grieving over Simon and it was sad. We all drove in silent.

When we got to the bar, Josh was drinking everything and Hailey was no where to be found. Steve didn't even come inside, he stayed in the car and told us to go ahead.

I didn't want to stay at the bar with Josh because I could barely look at him without wanting to kill him already. I decided to go in the manager's office in the back and sit there with Ozzie. That's where we found Hailey.

A blue mark was below her eye and her lip was busted but she was still happy Hailey.

"Ozzie!" She cried rushing up to hug Ozzie. I walked passed them and sat at the manager's desk putting my feet on the desk and lying back in the chair.

I brainstormed on how I was going to kill Josh then settled on shooting him with the gun Ozzie found. But I can't do it here, we'll have to go somewhere private and that's what I'm worried about.

"Leo?" Ozzie asked leaning forward on my chair. "Are you ok?"

"Yeah, are you ok?" I asked.

"My head hurts and so does Hailey's".

" Sorry about that".  I replied hating Josh more and more.

"Does it hurt?" Ozzie asked pointing at the scar on my cheek Josh gave me.

"Yeah but not allot". It'll fade eventually.

"What if you're lucky and it stays on your face forever!" Hailey said running to Ozzie's side. "You'll look super cool, like Scar Face!"

That managed to make me chuckle. "Yeah, if I'm lucky".

"Where's Steve?" Hailey asked.

"He's outside, I should go get him". I got out the seat and headed outside. Hailey and Ozzie followed me.

"Hey sweetie, want to do some body shots?" Josh asked raising his glass when I passed him by.

"You have a bullet coming your way". I mumbled. Hailey tilted her head at my response. I wondered if she heard me.

"Hailey where do you think you're going?" Josh boomed. Hailey cringed at his tone. Guess that means she can't go with me. Ozzie sensed how scared her friend was and held her hand.

"I'll stay with you Hailey". She smiled. Hailey smiled back and they both went back into the manager office. Josh better not try to hit them while I'm gone.

I went outside in the rain. Steve was in his small Jeep with his face buried in his hands. I walked over to the Jeep and knocked on the window asking to come in.

He looked up from his hands at me. His eyes were tired, teary, and bloodshot. I wondered if he even wanted to be talked to but then he unlocked the door letting me in. I jumped in and sat in the seat next to him.

We were both silent for a while then I broke it. "I'm sorry about Simon".

"It's ok, you're not the one who killed him". We were silent again.

Steve weakly smiled. "When Simon was a child, he was really into superheroes"."He called himself Happy Man". "His power was to fix everyone's problems at the snap of the finger, to this day Simon still believed he was Happy Man". "He was little and I told him to grow up because he's not going to be a superhero, he's being a dentist like me". "...That's all I can think about".

I didn't know how to reply.

"Simon tried to work his powers on me when I was stressed about work, his child when it cried at night, his mother when she was mad at me". "Hell, he even tried his powers on a completely helpless people...like Josh". Steve's eyes hardened with a slight angry look.
