"What's wrong?" Ozzie asked as walked back into the house. What isn't wrong? I walked to her and sat down on the floor. Ozzie carefully got off the table and sat next to me.
I had wiped all the tears away a while ago but she still knew I had been crying. Instead of asking more questions, Ozzie rested her head on my shoulder.
It was like a slap to the face. Ozzie is relying on me and I'm acting like a helpless baby. Crying isn't gonna help anyone and it never will. I need to be strong and suck it up.
"Do you feel better?" I asked.
"No, I feel...hot". She answered. A fever. I fought off the idea of her being infected and stood up.
The house was too small and had too many holes in it, we can't spend the night something would be bound to get us.
The sun was at the top of the sky so there was still hours of daylight left. Palm Bay was miles away but we could still make it without any delays.
I hoisted Ozzie up into my arms and walked outside.
"Please don't shake me". Ozzie let out.
"I won't". I replied. I walked up the road.
"Why are we walking?" Ozzie asked.
I didn't really want to answer that. She'll think it's all my fault for being friendly to a stranger. I don't want her growing up thinking you can't trust anyone. Like Mrs. Parker.
"For exercise". I finally said. Ozzie didn't seem satisfied with my answer but she didn't say anything else.
________
By the time we made it back to the exit, my feet were ready to give out. A crooked smile spread across my face. We were so close!
Ozzie had fell asleep in my arms. Her forehead brushed against my cheek and I could feel the intense heat coming from her fever. Her weight was killing my arms but she's too sick to walk.
I walked intill the buildings of Palm Bay surrounded me. I took a break behind a wheeless car. I placed Ozzie down and sat down next to her.
Ozzie woke up. "Where are we?" She asked.
"Palm Bay!" I said happily. Ozzie looked at me with concern in her eyes.
A loud moan came from the streets followed by other loud moans. Ozzie and I quickly piped down and looked over the car.
Palm Bay was filled with zombies. Hundreds littered the street and only God knows how many are in this entire city. I should've known since Palm Bay is a city. In all zombie apocalypses, cites are always populated with the most zombies.
It was a stupid move to walk all the way here without a any protection and risking Ozzie's life knowing she's sick and can't do much. Now we're trapped.
There could be a way to sneak pass them. It could be like Walking Dead where you have to smell like zombie guts to pass or it could be like Warm Bodies where you have to act like a zombie.
It could work but its too risky. If we do the wrong thing, it'll be over. The sun was setting, I don't have much time left.
Instead of doing either, Ozzie and I got into the car we were hiding behind. Ozzie sat next to me as I started the car.
Every zombie looked my way as they heard the engine start. They ran towards us and I slammed on the pedal ramming every single one.
"Whoo hooo!" I shouted. Ozzie laughed as one zombie flew off the hood of the car. We drove straight for a good mile intill the car started slowing down.
"No, no, no, no, not now!" I cried stomping on the gas. The gas meter was on E. My stupid self forgot to check the meter first, great.
"Ozzie, run!" I screamed. We both got out the car. I remembered she couldn't run so I swooped her up in my arms. A stampede of the zombies we ran over chased us.
I picked up my feet and ran as fast as I could. Zombies came out of the alley and blocked our way. I turned into another street that was flooded with zombies.
A zombie grabbed my hair and tried to pull me to its mouth but I jerked my head away leaving a small amount of hair in the zombie's hand. I kept running ignoring the pain in my head.
There were too many zombies everywhere! I dashed in a alley and caught my breath. The zombies couldn't see us but they will if we stayed to long.
Ozzie jumped out my arms and threw up on the ground. It was liquid and there was blood in it. When I was running, I must've shook her up.
A hand reached out of the darkness and grabbed my wrist. I screamed and kicked whatever it was in the stomach. It grunted and came out of the shadows.
It grabbed my arms again and brought my face close to his. I jerked, screamed, and told Ozzie to run (She didn't because she passed out of vomiting).
A hand was placed over my mouth. It wasn't a zombie hand, it was human. The guy took off his hood and revealed his face.
"Yo Nappy". "If you want to live shut the hell up and follow me!" It was Tyler.
