After Ozzie and I stopped crying, we dug a hole with our hands and buried the baby. After that, we headed back to the car in silence.
Once we were inside, the tears finally stopped running down my face. I just felt heartbroken now, and alone.
Wait, what am I talking about. I still have Ozzie and she's not leaving me and I'm not leaving her. Its just us again.
I sighed sitting back into the drivers seat. "This group, it's getting smaller". I repeated the same words Yael said to me hours ago.
"But that's ok". Ozzie said overhearing my muttering. "Because it's Leola and Ozzie vs. The world...right?"
That managed to make me smile. "Yep, Leola and Ozzie". I reached my hand out to her and she gave me a high five. "Alright, lets get to Yonker".
After two miles of driving, I realized something.
"Aw man!" I cried.
"What, what's wrong?" Ozzie asked looking up from her book.
"I don't know how to get to Yonker!"
Ozzie gave me a "You're stupid" look.
"Whatever!" I replied. "We'll just get on the interstate, the signs will show us the way".
Thing is we were already on the interstate, so I just drove forward. I finally reached a part of the interstate that had signs and directions. But there was a problem, well allot problems.
For one, the rest of the interstate was blocked because of all the abandon cars in the way. Two, the car just ran out of gas. And I think number three is the worst problem.
"Why are we slowing down?" Ozzie asked.
"The car is out of gas, come on, we have to get out". I answered. Ozzie and I got out the car.
I leaned up against the car wondering how to deal with my third problem.
"What's wrong?" She asked. I pointed at the problem.
Every sign or billboard that had any sense of direction was covered up with black paint.
"Maybe someone didn't want to be followed?" Ozzie suggested.
"You don't think Alex and Tyreese would..." I trailed off. They wouldn't do this, they wanted us to find them. Someone else had to do this.
There were too ways the interstate was going. One way was to my left and the other was to my right. Which way could lead to Sebring?
"Ozzie, which way do you think Sebring is?"
"I dunno". She answered bluntly. "I know what to do!" She kept pointing at each direction singing a song. "Eenie meenie miney mo catch a tiger by its toe- I smiled and shook my head. Something was moving in the corner of my eye. "If he hollas let him go my momma chooses the very- I covered Ozzie's mouth and threw her in the car with me.
"Stay down". I said. I peeped up out the window.
Hundreds of zombies were shuffling across the interstate like a herd. They were blocking the left side.
"Guess that's not a suggestion anymore". I muttered. No way I could get a car that could run over that many, fight off that many, or even try to avoid that many. They looked like they were headed into the woods but some of them wandered away checking cars. Sooner or later they would check our car. Ozzie and I need to find another car and go right.
"Ozzie", I whispered. "We need to find another car, quietly, stay close".
I opened the door quietly letting myself out then Ozzie. She stayed close behind me.
