Peter sighed, pacing around and wondering what to do. He had no money with him but needed to get home. Ned decided it would be great if he got his driver's license and left his best friend at the dollar store. Surely he would be seen if he slung his way home, seeing as he left his bag at home thanks to doing his patrol already. He whipped out his phone, dialling the first contact he had. If Ned wasn't so clumsy, he would have called him and made him roll his way back and take him home. But nope, Ned broke his phone.
What a string of good luck, right?
"Hello?" Came her voice, making him sigh in relief and start pacing.
"Hey, it's Peter..."
"Oh, hey Peter! What's up?" She asked and he looked at the dollar store, shaking his head.
"So... Ned got his driver's license." Peter trailed, stopping in his tracks for no reason in particular.
"Awesome! Tell him I said welcome to the club!" She joked as he let out a laugh that flipped to nervous in the end. "Wait... what happened?"
"He might have left me at the dollar store."
"Dude, just swing home!"
"I... don't have my suit." He said, scratching the back of his neck with his free hand.
"Oh god," She said, bursting into laughter that made Peter crack a smile, "I'll come get you just- give me a minute. I'm still in my fricken pajamas." She mumbled the last sentence in annoyance, making Peter let out a little laugh that made her stop moving, the line going quiet. He checked to see that he was still on call with her, and he was. "You heard that?"
"Yeah, why?"
"That's... embarrassing." She mumbled once again and he heard a small bang that meant she had placed the phone down and heard a shuffling.
"You okay there?" He asked, feeling his face go hot.
"Yeah, why?"
He thanked whatever God there was that he wasn't facetiming her, otherwise she would have seen his beet red cheeks after she picked the phone back up and walked over to the door. There was a click and she stopped where she was walking. "I'll see you in a few minutes, Pete." The nickname made him smile like a little kid and she ended the call, making him have to wait for her to finally arrive.
As soon as her car came into view and parked, she walked out and spotted him immediately, waving at him whilst very clearly laughing. He chuckled, jogging over to her and giving Y/N a quick hug. "Thank you so much, I would be dead without you." He complimented, getting in the car quickly and not noticing the blush that made its way to her face. She sighed, getting in the car and starting to drive.
"So how are you going to get payback?"
She asked, looking at the mirror to see a grin on his face as he shrugged.
"I have no idea but it'll be good. You helping out?"
"I'll be the pacifist, thanks." Y/N replied, stopping at a red light as Peter let out a soft laugh. "So.." She trailed, tapping the wheel lightly, "How are things between you and MJ?"
"MJ? Oh, yeah, it's- it's great, thanks. How is Harry? I haven't seen him in a while."
"He's doing okay, just stressing over work." I replied, continuing to drive again when the lights changed.
"So.. Ned told me you've been avoiding us a lot nowadays, is that true?" He asked me, making me gulp and shake my head.
"Just really busy.. I'm not- I'm not avoiding you guys!"
He sighed, making me look in the mirror to see a heart melting look on his face. "Why?"
"I don't- I don't know, I've just felt like a third wheel a lot and it reminds me of past friendships that never worked out. I don't want to be manipulated and left to the side, is all."
He nodded and I watched the road so I didn't have to see his expressions. He probably leaned back in his seat and looked outside the window with his puppy dog eyes. "I'm.. sorry you were reminded of that."
I waved it off. "It's fine, I don't mind now!" Because that's not the problem.
The problem is, Peter Parker, is that my two best friends are dating and you just so happen to be the one I thought I could tell anything- the one where I can look into their eyes and say I've never told them a lie.
Peter Parker, you are my problem because I love you.
