“So you don’t have anything to tell us?” My mum asks taking a sip of her steaming hot tea after giving it a blow.

“Not anything interesting” I smile, I know it’s best not to tell anyone about my little encounter with Jason because what’s the point? How can they help? It’s only going to upset and anger more people then it already has and it will just cause more trouble which I really don’t need. Anyways, today I’m forgetting about him, I’m forgetting about everything and I’m focusing on enjoy today. Life is way too short to be worrying about ‘what ifs’ and ‘might’s’. I’m going to enjoy today because my problems can wait for tomorrow.

“Don’t lie, Kimberley” My mum says sternly catching my eye. The sudden change in her voice makes me nervous. Shes speaking in what I establish as the ‘mum voice’ I should know, I do the same with my own daughter. She puts the mug back down on the table and she sits looking at me with both her hands comfortably wrapped around it.

“I don’t know what you mean” I try to avoid eye contact, I’m absolutely rubbish at lying.

“You can’t hide stuff from us, you never could and now you’re in the public eye, nothing goes unnoticed”

I swallow hard realising what she must be talking about. Sallys just sat nodding her head in agreement with everything that’s being said, I really didn’t want to have this conversation today or any day really, I like to avoid it and pretend this problem doesn’t exist. “We see the papers, Kim. We do have access to the internet”

“Well you don’t need me to tell you then do you?”

“Why didn’t you tell us he was back? He isn’t seeing Paisley is he?”

“Of course he isn’t, what do you take me for? I just didn’t want to upset anybody”

“You should have seen Adam” Sally tells me with a chuckle and a look of amusement on her face. “He was so close to marching around to your place and having it out with him, it took ages to calm him down”

“He would have another bruise to add to the collection on his face then”

“Another?”

“Sarah” I roll my eyes and Sally leans forward.

“What did she do?!”

“Well you know what our Sarahs like, let’s just say she wasn’t holding back”

“I can’t believe you didn’t say anything”

“Well … I didn’t see the point; I didn’t want you all worrying. I didn’t think you would find out”

“There are pictures of him outside your house, how would we not find out?”

“I didn’t know people were taking pictures”

My mum does a weird little chuckle but it’s of anything but amusement. “Who?” Paisley asks climbing on the seat next to me and jumping into the conversation. Once again she’s been listening to a conversation which doesn’t concern her, this is why we have to be careful what we say around her.

“Nobody” I smile at her and I pass her the iPad. “Its fine, I’m fine, it’s getting sorted” I whisper and decide to change the subject, Paisley will only ask more questions. “So this little one starts nursery next week don’t you?”

“Don’t want to” She simply states.

“Why not it will be lots of fun and you’ll make a lot of friends, your mummy loved nursery when she was your age she never wanted to leave! At first you always used to cry for me when I left you, do you remember?”
