Robin's POV
After school I walked out to the parking lot, searching for my bike when I noticed the rays of light reflected by a seriously over polished white Mercedes. I shielded my eyes until the light faded out to reveal Derek leaning on the Mercedes wearing a pair of black shades looking at me. I facepalmed, not even wanting to know what was happening before grabbing my bike and getting on.
Behind me I heard Derek's frantic shouts for me to wait and after Alaska's plea to see what he's got to say, my wolf is just as sadistic as me, I stopped reluctantly. "What do you want?" Derek stopped, probably not expecting me to actually stop, and froze for a while. I had to admit, it was kind of cute. "Um, well," he suddenly had a smug look and all cuteness left the building, "I'm picking you up from school." I got back on and started riding away, "No thanks."
"Wait!" I stopped again and stretched a smile, "Yes?" He thought for a minute before showing a, 'look at the lightbulb on my head!' face. If he says one more smug sentence I am going to ram my bike on that stupid looking fa-,"I'll buy you macdonalds!"
Sold.
I happily hopped onto the passenger's side and swung my feet under the cupboards as he drove me to macdonalds. When we arrived, I ordered three cheeseburgers, two hash browns, and a large order of fries. Derek attempted to order sparkling water and when they told him they only had regular water his mind almost exploded. I had to comfort him for five minutes before my food arrived and I no longer gave two-shits for that loser.
We sat at one of the table beside the window and I ate my burgers happily while Derek settled with his regular water. Feeling kinda sorry for him, I offered him a hash brown and we had a short moment where our fingers touched and it looked almost like the beginning of a romance novel. We quickly lost that moment however as I finished scuffing down my burgers and the rest of my french fries. At the end, I was too full to eat the other hash brown and instead gave that one to Derek too, which he happily took, completely forgetting about his sparkling water.
We sat there for a while, just sitting in silence as I resented my jaw muscles from chewing so much and played with my enlarged stomach that grew twice the size. Derek looked at me horrified, "How are you not fat yet?" He glared at him, "I only eat this much when someone treats me to food. Besides, it's macdonalds." I said in a 'duh' tone. He nodded with a look that said that what I said was completely logical. "Don't you have new alpha duties you need to do?" I asked, kinda feeling bad that I made the pack's new alpha drive four miles away from the pack just for macdonalds.
He shook his head, "My duties don't start officially until tomorrow. I'd probably just make Danny and my dad help me out anyway." he said lazily. I glared at him angrily. I didn't like how he always made his beta and dad do his work, especially because they always treat me so well, "How are you going to manage a mate when you can't even manage your job?" I spat. He glared at me,"Shut up. I don't see you doing alpha duties." I snort,"That's because I'm not an alpha. And considering the current alpha's working hard on removing me as the pack's luna as well, I don't think it's any of my concern."
He stood up and banged the table, causing some heads to turn. "Fine, you want a responsible alpha? I'll give you a responsible alpha!" he growled, "come on, I'm driving you home."
Derek's POV
For the past week, I've been working my butt off resolving disputes, preventing turf wars, and organising all of my files in an order according to the alphabet and most important to not so important all while rejecting any sort of help from Danny and dad, which almost made my dad get a heart attack from shock. Ok, I get it, I'm very lazy. But over the week, I found a sort of joy of doing things for myself. It was nice knowing exactly where everything was and what I was dealing with for once. I hate to admit it, but if Robin had never gotten me mad, I would've probably missed out on being a true alpha. I'd never admit it though.
At the end of the week, I was sitting back on my chair, dead tired after resolving the argument over who was going to build the new bakery near the local business. Construction workers are ferocious. Outside my window, I noticed Robin sitting at the fountain by himself, playing with the water while gazing at the moonlight. For a minute, he looked stunning, like the most beautiful creature I've ever seen. "And the hottest" Sax purred. I rolled my eyes at him. "Talk to him! Talk to our mate! He must be lonely after we neglected him for a week!" I doubted that, but I approached him anyway.
"Hi" I said, a little loss for word. It had been a while since we last spoke. He looked at me and smirked, "Hey there alpha." The way he spoke made me blush after not hearing his voice for a long time, it seemed more rugged. I regained my composure and showed off my signature smile, "How'd you like my work? Did it all by myself." I said proudly. He gazed into my eyes, as if looking if I was lying, and I felt for the first time that I didn't want them to ever tear away. Without tearing his gaze, he smiled,"I'm proud of you." Something in my heart hurt. It felt like tiny bees were jumping on it in a synchronised motion and my heart started beating rapidly. Maybe it was how the moon shined over his features perfectly, or how his eyes gazed into mine, or maybe it was that dazzling smile, but something in me told me that I never wanted to let him go.
