Ben's POV

As if possessed by a giving candy demon, Derek bought me three sticks of cotton candy and even stopped by the candy shop to get me a candy necklace, something I used to buy all the time as a kid. I was surprised he even remembered that.

"uhm, Derek, you know I can't eat all this right?" I chuckled. "Why? Too much candy? Should I go get you some pork ribs?" I shook my head quickly, knowing he wasn't joking. This kind Derek was also a bit too kind Derek. It was getting kinda creepy.

I smiled, "I'm pretty much cheered up now, we should get back before your wife starts another curse war with San." He nodded, recalling the last time the mother and child duo decided to play that game. "Nicky was so traumatised by their last one he started nitpicking everytime they would curse."

We continued talking about the twins and Robin all the way back. That was, until I caught a whiff of a particular wolf and froze. Danny?

Roux seemed to take over my body as I started running at full speed back. I barged into the door, yelling in a weird desperate voice I never thought I could make, "DANNY?"

Infront of me, Danny and Robin, who had tears dried on their cheeks looked at me in shock. I immediately dropped everything and ran up to him, pulling him in a tight hug. In my head I heard Roux's approving whines, and butterflies jumping around my stomach.

"I missed you" I sighed. Danny was stiff under my embrace, stuck in an awkward position. "Uhm, please let go." he whispered.

Scared of scaring him off, I quickly did, still sticking a bit closer than comfort. He took a step back, making my chest sting a little. "W-why are you here?" I asked, trying to contain my excitement.

Danny bit his lip, "I'm here to talk to you." I swear something inside of me did a flip. He went to talk to me, and I didn't have to kidnap him for it! "So, what about?" I said a little too excitedly. I couldn't contain my smile anymore.

"Can we...talk in private?" he said looking at Robin and Derek who had followed me suit. I nodded quickly, pointing him towards the garden. Behind us, I heard discretely Derek speaking, "Woah, Danny got prettier." and then a hard thud followed by a painful grunt.

"So what do you wanna say?" I asked with a smile, a small part of me expecting he'd say he had left his wife and realised he wanted to be with me instead. Ok maybe a big part.

Danny avoided my gaze, looking intently at the swaying grass, " I think...that your behaviour last night was out of line." My smile dropped so fast it was almost faster than my heart did.

"Oh...last night."

Danny finally met my gaze, anger now apparent in his eyes, "You don't just show up behind my house before dawn uninvited like you did." Right, because he had a family now. "...I understand. I won't do what I did again."

I steeled myself to go on, "But I'm not giving up on you Danny. I know you decided to live with humans, but I know somewhere in you, you still want me...or at least, you want you mate." I said, a little unsure myself.

I took his silence and pained expression as a small confirmation. "...Think whatever you want, Ben. But I can't accept you that fast." I nodded relunctantly, "I know it won't be eay. But I swear to you, I won't give up on you even if I die." Not again.

"Well it's going to be one hell of a lifetime for you." he chuckled bitterly. I smiled, loving his laugh even if it was done in spite. I guess I'll just have to suffer for the rest of my life then.

Robin's POV

"What do you think they're talking about?" Derek asked between pained whimpers as he rubbed his butt. I shrugged, keeping my eyes on the transparent sliding doors that showed the two's serious figures.

"I'm worried about Danny." I sighed. Derek look at me incredulously, "Danny? It's Ben that's got it tough!"

I sneered at my husband, "That idiot deserved everything that happened to him. He was the one that decided it was a good idea to propose to a girl he didn't know wouldn't be his mate."

"That was an honest mistake. The kid's still young, and you know he isn't much of a thinker." Derek sneered back, "Besides, Danny isn't exactly reasonable either."

I glared at my husband, "What you say about my best friend?" Derek shrugged, "Hey, he was my best friend too alright. But the man was just straight up unreasonable ever since he left."

"You know nothing about how he feels."

Derek arched a brow, "Danny was the one who left his mate and didn't even tell him that they were mated. He watched his own mate propose to his girlfriend and decided that was his que to leave. Right before Ben's birthday which would've cleared the whole misunderstanding had he stayed. And that's jus the beginning of it."

I scoffed at him, "You say this as if you haven't been observing the way he'd after for the first five years after he left." Derek bit his lip, "Alright. I admit he was acting very...childish. But at least he didn't knock up a human woman and had a kid with her when he knew he had a mate somewhere else."

"Huh?"

"Huh?"
