Chapter 23

Ben's POV

"I just want you to know that...I love you, alright?" my neck was sweating from nervousness and my heart was beating all over the place.

Danny looked shocked at my statement, but soon his face turned red in anger, "You don't have the right to say that to me now." he growled. Before I knew what was happening he had already transformed and ran off, not even caring that we were so close to the village.

I was left there utterly speechless with a broken heart. You kind of deserved that. Roux said in my head. Great, not even my wolf's defending me. I sighed, not bothering to go after him knowing it would just make things worse.

I turned around to see Robin and Derek quickly averting their eyes from me and sighed again. Of course they were also watching. I wanna dig a hole and plummet into it.

Instead of making another scene in the garden, I dragged myself inside.

"How was your talk?" Robin smiled, probably already knowing exactly how it went. "I think I'll just lock myself up in my room for the rest of our time here." I grumbled. Derek snarled, "You're the whole fucking reason we're even staying here."

"Doesn't matter. I confessed. Got rejected. Again. So now I wanna go home." Don't you fucking dare. Roux growled.

"Hell nah. You did not make us go on that long ass car ride here to chase after your mate only to leave without him. Besides, I don't wanna leave Sophie here." he muttered the last part. I growled, "Sophie? Is that the name of his kid with that bitch?"

Robin pursed his mouth, "Did I say that out loud?"

"Yes"

He sighed, "Alright yea. Sophie's his kid but I think you're getting the wro-"

"Yeah hell no. I'm packing up. The sooner I get away from that child and...her, the better my mood will be." I said, storming my way to my room to really pack up my luggage. But before I could, I heard a small high pitched voice that could never belong to the twins and froze.

"Uncle Robin? Where's daddy?" A small child with long brown hair and the brightest blue eyes I'd ever seen appeared from behind the twins' door. As soon as she saw me, she flinched and ran up to Robin who immediately hoisted her up in a tight embrace.

"Uhm...your dad had to go somewhere for a bit dear. He'll be back to pick you up soon." he lied to her. The little girl nodded, her gaze returning to me in caution. Robin seemed to have caught on as he plastered on a nervous smile, "Sophie! I don't think you've met your uhm....well, this is Ben."

The girl frowned, "Are you the guy who hurt my daddy?"

I flinched at her words and glared at her, making her flinch as well, but her gaze stayed strongly at me, as if daring me to continue. She inherited his guts that's for sure. Not counting the hair, she had no other physical resemblance to Danny, which kind of eased my anger a little.

Robin started glaring at me too, "Don't you glare at my daughter in law!" He huffed, "Come on Sophie, let's go play with the boys while Ben gets his anger issues sorted out." I gaped at the man. He actually chose to side with a little girl he just met today than his friend of more than a decade? Wow, really feeling the love.

"Fine! I'll stay here with Derek and we're gonna go play in the arcade!" I grumbled back a bit childishly. "Let's go Derek!" I marched to the door, only to realise the said man was trailing after his wife and the kid with a stupidly happy expression. I rolled my eyes, Derek and his obssession with kids.

Danny's POV

I can't believe him. I can't believe him. I can't believe him.

How dare he say he loves me?

I stormed into my house, fresh tears apparent on my cheeks. Clara seemed shocked at my sudden outburst and stood up from the couch instantly.

Without saying anything, she walked up to me and immediate held me in a comforting embrace. "So it went there after all, huh?" I furiously nodded my head, burrowing it into her shoulder. I cried, my voice hoarse and the ugliest I've ever heard it to be. Clara continued to stay quiet, the circles she rubbed on my back with her palm the only indication that she was listening.

That was all I needed right now.
