Chapter 45

"That was a big success, I think I'm going to cry." You say, pacing as you see Yamaguchi and Yachi from a distance.

"Yeah, well. That's thanks to you." Tsukishima replies, sitting on the bench. "Sit down, will you?"

You give him an I'm-not-done-with-my-feels-yet look.

"Okay, I won't show you what I bought, then."

Pouting, you walk towards the bench and sit next to him.

"Close your eyes."

"What? No. You said you'd show it to me!"

"It's..." He trails off, and he actually seems...


Embarrassed?


"It's kind of... Uh... I-it's important."

You nod, and close your eyes.

"Hold out your hand."

You hold out your hand, and you feel his warm hand hold yours. He places something on your palm, and when he lets go, you open your eyes.

It's a small box. It has a little blue ribbon tied around it.

"Tsukki?"

"Please just open it," he says, looking away from you. His ears are red.

You pull the ribbon and open the box, revealing a thin ring with two hearts in the middle. Your eyes widen.

"Tsukki, are you-?!"

"I-I'm not proposing to you!" He says, cutting you off.

"No-...not yet."

Suddenly, out in the snow, it was hot. You felt as if all the blood in your body rushed to your cheeks. Tsukishima smirks and pokes your cheek.

"Somebody's blushing."

"I-I'm not blushing, you beanpole!"

"I love you, too." He retorts to your tsundere-like reaction. He takes the box from you and takes the ring out.

"It's a promise ring. I thought... I'd get you this... And I want you to consider this as... Like... Um..."

You press your lips together as you watch him insert the ring on your pinkie finger, trying to stay calm.

"... A promise? God, I'm trying to make this sound sweet. "

You giggle.

"Yeah, that wasn't very sweet. Sorry. "

"Yes, it is, what matters is that you're trying, Tsukki," you say, saving him. "But a promise for what?"

"Consider it a promise for the future," he begins, getting up from the bench. "I'll put a real ring on the finger next to your pinkie, (Name), someday."

Before you could say anything, he takes your hand and pulls you out of your seat and into his arms. You hug him back, and heave a sigh.

Tsukishima lets you go, his hands on your shoulders and keeping you at arm's length.

"What's wrong? Do you not like it?"

"No no! It's not like that, Tsukki! It's just..." you sigh again, reaching for your bag.

"I kinda feel bad that this is my only gift for you on Christmas..."

You take out the bag that contained the yellow stegosaurus plushie, and his jaw drops.

"You- (Name), I-"

You press your lips into a thin line.

The blonde grabs it from you, and raises it with both hands.

"I got the best gift from the best girl in the world!" He exclaims, catching you off guard.

"Tsukki?!"

He laughs, and it was like music to your ears. You grin widely and blush.

"I wanted to get this earlier, but if I did, I wouldn't have enough money to buy you that ring," he says. "But I wanted to get you something too... And I'd do anything to see you smile."

He holds the plushie's leg in one hand, and wraps his arm around your waist, bringing you closer to him.

"Thank you, (Name). I love this."

He bends down, gently pressing his lips against yours. Your hands cup his face, and he smiles against your lips. Breaking away, he kisses your forehead and heaves a contented sigh.

He checks his phone, and raises an eyebrow.

"Huh... It's midnight," he states, lookong away from his phone to look back at you, a smile on his face.

"Merry Christmas, (Name)."

You lean into him, taking in his warmth. "Merry Christmas, Tsukki..."

Christmas morning, and you wake up to the snow piling up on your window pane.

"IT'S SNOWING!" You scream, grabbing your coat and scarf off of a hanger on your door. Frantically wearing it over your pajamas, you dash down to the front of your house, finding your neighbors and some of their children playing in the snow.

You smile, sighing.
