Chapter 44

After lunch, you, Tsukishima, Yachi and Yamaguchi went into the city and went shopping.

While walking around, you and Yachi stopped right in front of a small shop with stuffed animals in it. One look, and you both ran inside the shop before the two boys could shout your names. They look at each other and went inside as well.

Yamaguchi and Yachi were in one aisle with stuffed cats and dogs, while you were in the stuffed food aisle. You grabbed a stuffed toy pizza and squeezed it.

Cute and delicious.

You put it back before you start an internal argument with yourself and walk to another aisle, and this time the megane was there.

"What'cha looking at, Tsukki?" You ask, walking towards him. But he walks to you and turns you around, pushing you out of that aisle. He looked intimidated and kept whispering "I don't need it" to himself.

You were pushed to an aisle where you two saw Yamaguchi carrying Yachi on his shoulders to reach something on the top shelf.

"Got it!" She exclaims and leans backwards, making Yamaguchi lean backwards as well and almost loses his balance.

"S-sorry!" She says.

The freckled boy gets on his knees and lets Yachi down, and holds out a yellow star plushie with a green leaf sticking out on the top.

You and the megane approach them.

"You guys okay?"

"And what is that?"

"I dunno, but it was cute and I knew I had to get this!" Yamaguchi says, taking the star from Yachi. "Are you guys gonna buy anything?"

Tsukishima straight up says no, and you shrug.

"I'll get something, I guess."

"I'll wait outside," the blonde says. "You two can pay for that, I'll wait."

The three of you nod, and you go explore the other aisles a little more while the two fall in line at the cashier.

Going back to that aisle your boyfriend pushed you out of, you finally realize why he looked so intimidated.

"Dinosaur plushies..."

Scanning over hundreds of dino dolls, a medium sized yellow stegosaurus caught your eye. You smile and decide to grab the stegosaurus and run to the cashier. There, you see Yachi and Yamaguchi next in line.

As you joined them, the cashier looked happy to see Yamaguchi hold out the star plushie.

"That's so sweet!" She starts. "Do you know the legend of this fruit?"

"Legend?"
"Fruit?"

"Oh! This is called a paopu fruit, it's said that it only exists on an island far, far away from here. They say, if two people eat the fruit, their destinies become intertwined, forever and ever! It's an unbreakable connection."

Yachi's eyes widen and her face turns red.

"Isn't that so romantic?" The cashier says, her hands on her cheeks.

She takes the plushie and scans it, Yamguchi pays for it, then they wait for you to pay for the plushie you chose for your boyfriend.

The three of you exit the shop and search for the megane.

You see him exit a shop and walk towards you.

"Let's go?"

You and your friends go around the city the entire afternoon and arrive at the festival at nightfall.

"Let's go get food!" You say as you began running to a nearby stall.

"Hey, wait for us!" Yamaguchi exclaims, breaking into a sprint.

It was all food and games until you got tired and decided to go to the nearby park to take a break. On your way there, it started snowing.

Tsukishima looks up and holds his hand out, letting the snow fall on it. You smile, placing your hand on top of his. He looks at you and smiles too, and you make your way to the park hand in hand.

You and your friends were near the park when you feel someone tug on your scarf. It was Yachi.

You glance at her and she gives you a determined look. You already knew what she wanted to do.

You nod.

"Tsukki, race you to the farthest bench!" You exclaim, already dashing to the other side. He yells and runs to get you, which leaves Yamaguchi and Yachi alone.

Yamaguchi doesn't even shout out to the two of you, he's just there, standing a few feet away from the blonde girl.

"So, uh..."
"I gotta say..."

They speak at the same time, which makes them laugh. Yachi insists the freckled boy to speak first, and he does.

"I-I gotta say, um... I really like this star shaped fruit we bought..."

Yachi flushes red, stuttering the name of the fruit.

"The pop- the pap-... T-the paopu fruit!"

Yamaguchi chuckles.

"Hey, can I ask you something?" He asks, moving a little so he's right in front of her. Yachi looks up to the freckled boy and nods.

"Do you believe in the legend of this fruit? That if two people eat it, their destinies become intertwined?"

Yachi's face turns pink and answers shyly.

"I-it sounds really... Sweet..."

Yamaguchi takes out his paopu fruit stuffed toy and stares at it, then at the blonde.

"If we shared this plushie... Will we have an unbreakable connection?"

Yachi flushes red, and looks down. Yamaguchi stammers and asks if she was okay, fumbling with the plushie.

She looks up to him again and giggles.

"Yamaguchi-kun, whether or not we share this... We'd always have an unbreakable connection..." She mutters, and the freckled boy tilts his head in confusion.

"E-eh?"

"Y-Yamaguchi-kun, I like you!" Yachi exclaims, bowing low. "I really like you and you're really nice and great at volleyball and really cute and-" She stops, realizing she said too much. She flushes red again.

Yamaguchi is speechless.

Suddenly, he drops the plushie and pulls Yachi in a tight hug. He lifts her up as if she was weightless, and Yachi laughs breathlessly.

"I like you too." He whispers as he sets the blonde girl down, smile unfaded.

Puffs of air escape his mouth as he breathes deeply, and he moves forward, making his forehead touch Yachi's.

"Can I kiss you?" He asks, holding her hands.

She mutters a yes as her eyes flick down to his lips. With a slight pull, his lips press onto hers.

You, from a distance, fist pump into the air as you stop yourself from screaming.
