Chapter 20

I needed a surgery but nobody was sure if it was going to be successful.

Even the tiniest mistake could take my life.

I was out of this world, laid on a hospital bed.

A few minutes before the surgery, Liam came in my hospital room to see me.

He stood there, in front of my body, looking at my face, full of scars and bruises.

He knew deep down that I was right and that's what was killing him.

"Why did you do this to me?! Why did you make me love you?! You're right! If you hadn't met me, you would have a normal life! A life that you deserve! I'm sorry for ruining your life! You're not gonna love me or trust me! I don't blame you! I'm a killer! A monster! But I didn't choose to be like that! I regretted it! I want you to know that I'll be by your side forever! I'll protect you! Nobody will hurt you as long as I'm here! I promise you that I won't ever leave you unless you ask me to! I want to know that you're beside me but you don't even want to see me! If you hear me, I just want you to know that I love you, Kathie!"

Liam's POV. 

I was asked to leave the room in order for the surgery to take place.

It took a lot of hours.

Niall, Alisa and I were waiting all these hours to hear about the progress of the surgery.

"If the surgery isn't successful, I'll give her my blood."  I said messing my hair with my hands.

"Don't! She hates vampires! She wouldn't want to be one of them! Let her decide about her life herself." Niall warned me carefully. He didn't want to upset me.

"Liam, Niall is right! Don't worry! Everything is going to be alright! She'll hate you even more if you do something like this!" Alisa joined Niall. They were trying to calm me down but they couldn't.

"I won't take it if I hear that I lost her! If she doesn't make it, I'll follow her! I'll die with her!" I was desperate to hear that she was okay. I wouldn't take it if I heard the bad news of her death.

We'd been waiting for hours till a doctor informed us about her condition.

We stayed there all night long.

Early in the morning a doctor came out of the room where she was in and told us that everything had gone pretty well.

After two days had passed, she could get discharged but she was a minor so Alisa called their father in order to sign some papers.

In the evening of the same day, he was at the hospital.

Kathie's POV.

"Dad?!" I was surprised.

'Kathie?! How are you?' He asked me with concern in his voice and his face. I really loved my father.

"In a lot of pain for now. Why didn't you tell me my biological mother is alive?!" I asked him not believing the words coming out of my mouth.

'What are you talking about, love?!' He said but I wasn't buying his oblivious reaction.

"Dad, I saw her!"  I told him calmly making him feel comfortable enough to tell me.

'Okay! I thought she had died, too. But she came to find me! She told me she's a witch! She tried to kill me.' He admitted after a couple of minutes full of silence.

"Why didn't you tell me anything?!" 

'Listen, Kathie! You're not Jane's daughter! Alisa is her daughter! We just thought it was better to tell you that because we knew that you were always calmer and more logical than Alisa. We didn't want her to be unhappy!'

"So you decided to make Alisa happy by hiding the truth from me all these years!" I couldn't believe what he was telling me. Was he even being serious?

'Emilie is your biological mother.'

"How could you do that to me?!"

'Honey it was for the best.'

"How can you say that?!"

"I'm sor-..'"

"NO! GET OUT! LEAVE ME ALONE!"

My father left the room.

I couldn't believe what he told me.

Why did they do this to me?! How could they?! Obviously I didn't matter to any of them. They never cared at all about my feelings.

I was all alone in that cold hospital room. I couldn't let this get to me. I was strong enough to let it go. But this was important to me.

I decided to forget it for a while.

I knew I had to or I was gonna lose it.

I grabbed my things and got ready to face the world again.

When I got out, I saw Alisa, Niall and Liam.

Liam was the first one to come closer.

"Let me help you!" He offered smiling awkwardly.

"No, it's okay! I can make it." I rejected his help, smiling as awkwardly.

"How are you?" Niall caught my attention.

"I guess I'm good."

"Feeling any pain anywhere?" Alisa eyed me carefully.

"A bit but I can take it. Let's go now." I wanted to leave as quick as possible after what my father had told me.

"I'll take it!" Liam said while grabbing gently the bag I was holding.

I couldn't understand why he was being so nice to me after saying he hated me before the accident. I could never understand him. I wasn't even going to try to understand him either. He hated me after all. I hated him too..I guess..

We went to the parking lot. I couldn't wait to go home.

"Dad is waiting for us! He's gonna take us home!" Alisa informed me smiling. If only she knew.

That's when I saw him, out of his car, waiting like nothing had happened.

I decided not to talk to Alisa about what he told me. We got closer.

Liam and Niall went to their car, a few meters away.

'I'll be staying at your place, till Kathie gets better.' He smiled at us.

"Why?!" I snapped.

"Because I want to look after you." He smiled even wider. Why was he acting like nothing had happened?!

"I don't want you to look after me! You never did! Why now?!" I regretted my words immediately. I was lying. He was always taking care of us. Alisa..and me.

I wasn't going to pretend to be okay with what was happening. I wasn't going to go home with him like we're a happy family.

I turned around, walking to Liam's car.

"What happened?! Aren't you going with your dad?" Niall nudged me playfully.

"With my dad?! No, I don't think so." I said dead serious.

Alisa knew something was wrong between me and my father.

So when they got home, she decided on talking to him...
