Barry turned the car wheel into the next lane to turn, the streets were jammed with traffic.
"Barry," Caitlin started, "I'm not too far along. We could have just super speeded us home."
Caitlin and Barry were just leaving the doctor's office from their first checkup. Caitlin was about three and a half weeks along, and the baby was healthy and didn't show any signs of meta traits yet.
"I know," Barry responded, "I just wanted to be careful."
He is going to be an amazing dad, Caitlin thought, placing her hand on her stomach.
"Hey look," Barry pointed out, driving into a store parking lot, "bookstore, let's see what they have on parenthood and kids."
..................................................
Caitlin sat on the couch looking through the massive pile of books Barry had purchased at the store.
"Was all this really necessary?" she said, going through all the titles, "Parenthood 101, What to Expect When Expecting. The Flash: The Legend?..."
"I might've gotten a little carried away at the store..." Barry responded, quickly taking the book out of Caitlin's hand, causing her to grin. "Iris and Felicity called earlier by the way. I know it's too early but who do you think should be on the guest list for the baby shower."
Caitlin placed the books down and took a throw pillow hugging it in front of her stomach. "Well, I mean... Iris, Felicity, Oliver, Thea, The Legends, Kara if she can make it, Jesse and Harry, Cisco, Joe, Cecile,... That's really it."
"Anyone form your family," Barry suggested, "I mean your mom..."
"Cisco put you up to this didn't he," Caitlin cut Barry off.
"I mean, he's not wrong," Barry said, "shouldn't your family know we're together or that you're pregnant."
"Like my mother would care, plus after my father died there really wasn't much of a family left. My mother cut off everyone, my cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents..." Caitlin started to feel cold, "Like any of them would even care."
"But you don't know that for sure until you try it. You don't even have to tell your mom at first, tell your uncle that you've told me about. Thomas Snow."
"I haven't seen him since my father's funeral, I don't know if I can,..." Caitlin trailed off.
"Yes, you can," Barry encouraged, "I know if you don't at least try, you're going to regret it."
Caitlin paused for a moment. Barry was right, she had thought about when she was going to tell her family, especially her mother, that she was having a baby. She also awaited her mother's old fashion judgment when she would tell her that she is not married to the father of her child. Her uncle Thomas, her father's brother, was her closest relative. He sat with her in hospitals when her father was in the emergency room. The only problem was she hadn't seen him in years and didn't know where he was. She always wished to reconnect with him though and ask him questions about her father and her powers.
Hesitating, she responded, "Fine. But I'll deal with my mother, last."
