"I don't mind it or anything," Barry started, "but I kinda thought when we got our first place together, it would just be us..."
Caitlin, Barry, and Charlie had just arrived at Jitters from an open house. Charlie went ahead to purchase all of them drinks while they got a table, on Barry's card.
"I know it's not typical, but he doesn't have a job or any money after hiding for thirty years. Plus, this just makes it easier to catch up," Caitlin replied. "But thank you for being okay with it."
"He's your family, he's my family," Barry said, causing Caitlin to smile.
"I love you," she said causing him to return his smile.
As Charlie made his way to the table with their drinks, he received a text from Thomas. It was a photo of him hiking up mountains in Europe, smiling, and a message reading: Tell Barry thanks for speeding me here. I'll be sure to call when the baby is born.
"He seems happy," Caitlin said.
"I'm happy for him, it's been a while since I've seen him smile," Charlie mumbled, though they could all hear it. Initiating a different conversation, he said, "that last house was really nice."
"Yeah, and it was perfect. Backyard, two baths, four rooms so we have a guest room just in case, and it's close to work," Caitlin stated.
"But it is way over our budget," Barry added, "But I can pick up a few more shift at CCPD, and the lease on the apartment is almost over anyway, so we can set up a few cots at Star Labs," Barry began listing before Charlie cut in.
"I can get a job, I mean I was planning to anyways so I can help out with the bills," Charlie said, "Although I don't have an official science degree, I passed a few flyers on the way here. Math tutor, uber driver, soccer coach," he listed, taking the sheets out of his pocket. "It's a small income but it prevents you guys from overworking yourselves."
"That would be perfect, thank you, Charlie," Caitlin said.
"No problem sis," he replied. "Plus, being a soccer coach would be fun, then maybe I can coach my little niece or nephew."
"Not if they inherit my athletic ability," Barry joked, causing them all to join in and laugh.
...............................................
After Jitters and putting in an offer for the house, Charlie went to Star Labs since Cisco wanted to test his powers and Barry and Caitlin went to their second ultrasound appointment.
Caitlin was now about a little over three months, twelve weeks, and it was too soon for the baby to show a lot, but Caitlin just thought it was because she had a thin frame.
As the doctor rubbed the cold gel on Caitlin's abdomen, her eyes grew wide and said, "Huh, that's odd."
"What's odd?" Barry asked frantically holding Caitlin's hand tight.
"We usually tell earlier on but, hiding behind the baby right there is another baby," she said.
"I'm having twins!" Caitlin said dropping her jaw, unsure whether to feel happy or scared.
"Well, that explains the double morning sickness," Barry joked with a glowing smile on his face.
After wiping the gel off Caitlin, the doctor said before leaving the room, "See the counter to make your next appointment before you leave.
Still, in awe, Caitlin looked over to Barry, "We're having twins."
"We're having twins," he repeats happily. Which Caitlin then repeats again smiling as Barry kisses her. "Guess we won't be having a guest room then."
...........................................................
Returning to Star Labs, the happy couple rushes into the speed lab to break the news. They find the team having an indoor snowball fight, of course, Charlie having an advantage.
There are cheers of celebration once it is announced. Joe being especially excited for more grandchildren.
The celebration is soon cut short from the metahuman alert app going off.
"Cisco what is it?" Barry asked.
"Our friend Godspeed finally decided to come out of hiding," he said.
Before leaving in a flash, Barry turned to Caitlin, giving her a kiss, saying, "I'll be back soon, I promise."
.................................................
Barry found himself chasing Godspeed down the streets of Central City, just inches behind but never close enough. Godspeed had eventually run them out to the middle of nowhere, causing the comms to have no signal.
"August!" Barry yelled out, "that is you right, August? Why are you doing this?"
"Aww, you know, there goes all the fun," Godspeed sighed mischievously, taking off his mask. "I'm not gonna ask you how though, just to speed things up."
"Why are you doing this?" Barry repeated.
"Oh, cuz it's just so much fun, Barry," August replied. "The thrill of running, moving at inhumane speeds, phasing,... killing..." he grinned, vibrating his hand.
"You're sick," Barry scoffed, "How about your brother?"
"Oh, I dealt with that long ago. Those idiots didn't see me coming," August replied. "Jorge had it coming though, he was good, weak, but you gotta do what you gotta do for family."
"Then what are you doing here, what do you want from us?" Barry asked.
"Haven't I made myself clear, to wreak havoc and to continue a legacy a power and fear, Barry" he replied.
Barry clenched his fist, and yelled, "How do you know who I am, what do you want?!"
"I may be crazy, but I'm not an idiot," August replied. "And the main reason I'm here is that I want to make a deal."
"I would never negotiate with a monster like you," Barry said.
"You sure about that?" August replied, "I'm sure you would hate it if your child grew up parentless just like you."
Barry clenched his fist harder, his eyes sparking with anger and the speed force. Thoughts fired through his mind like shots on a battlefield.
Barry sighed, relieving the pressure of his hands and looked regretfully at August.
