"This next case will require more than two detectives," Captain Fowler explained, gesturing towards the large presentation board he had up," I've assigned you two for this case with the help of the new android, RK900." He moved his gestures at the board to you and Gavin.
Gavin Reed. The local Detroit asshole. Why Captain Fowler chose him over all other people? Nobody will know. But what they did know is how heavy Gavin would be laying it on you during this investigation.
After the briefing, you began to pack up your stuff, shuffling through the papers handed to you about the case. Your eyes skimmed over the pictures of the victim, nearly a thousand injuries sustained, only one being a gun fire wound to the lower abdomen. The sight made your stomach do back flips as you crammed it into your bag and walked out of the meeting room, only to be backed into a wall.
"Well, it seems we're sharing an investigation for once," Gavin inched closer, pressing his hands against the wall, leaving you trapped," I think Jeffrey made a good choice."
You ducked under his arm," I'm sorry Detective Gavin, but I am sure he would appreciate you calling him Captain Fowler. Any ways, how would you like to accompany me to the crime scene? I have news that the RK900 android is already there."
Gavin mumbled under his breath, but nothing you could have caught," Yeah, uh, sure. Let's get a move on it then. Wouldn't want plastic solving it before we even get there." You nod in agreement, tossing your bag over your shoulder and grabbing your umbrella from the stand in the lobby of the station. Making your way outside, you didn't see Gavin grab an umbrella.
"Oh, Detective Gavin? Do you not have an umbrella?" He shook his head. "A real man doesn't need an umbrella." A sigh escaped your lips as you stepped closer to him, sharing your umbrella with him.
"You could catch a cold you dummy." Gavin didn't argue back, which you found astonishing for once as you walked down the path towards the crime scene which was only a few blocks from the station. Throughout the walk, you and Gavin made small talk, finding out more about each other.
He wasn't such an asshole after all. Just to those he didn't like. And maybe he put it on too thick, but who could blame the guy. He was just lonely, or so you assumed. You knew what the felt like.
Arriving at the scene, you immediately spot the RK900 sampling some blood, "Ew gross, I now know what Detective Anderson was talking about." Gavin looked at the android as well, gagging in response. "That's fucking gross."
You walked into the house, Gavin following you like a lost puppy, jotting small details you noticed onto your sketchpad, "Please Detective, refrain from any fowl language while on the job." He stared at you without saying anything, watching your face crease as you wrote down something wrong and watching you carefully step over any evidence.
"RK900, please tell me everything you've managed to recover that we didn't get due to our absence," Gavin would mentally trip every time you spoke. Everything that came from your mouth was so well thought out, something he never did. He watched you nod softly, taking in everything the android gave you. You were so perfect in his eyes.
"Thank you RK900. Your assistance on this case is very much appreciated, by both my partner and I." You smiled gently and pressed a kiss to the cheek of the android, a move you gave out of thanks. The android thanked you for your kindness and began to follow you around, helping you see things that you couldn't with your naked eye.
Gavin would try to butt in every so often, try to criticize the androids work, insulting him whenever you acknowledged the help of the android. It drove him wild. "You can't believe everything this machine says, can you?"
You stood up, your formal demeanor never faltering, "Please, Detective Reed, stop being such a buzzkill to this investigation." All Gavin could do was blink in disbelief. He knew you usually got onto him for such behavior, but to go the extent of calling him out in front of everybody? That was a whole new thing for him. For the rest of the time, he sulked in the corner.
After all RK900 discovered the deviant, everybody packed up the site and left, leaving you and Gavin. "Hey, uh, do you mind if I walk you home?" Your eyebrows raised as you side eyed him.
"Are you offering to walk me home Detective Re-"
"Please, just call me Gavin. You don't have to be so formal with me all the time." He gave a slight smile, something rare from his usual shit eating grin. "Well, Gavin, I would love for you to walk me home."
You two walked side by side to your apartment in silence before Gavin spoke up, "About what happened back there. I want to apologize. Not to the android, but to you. I didn't really help much and you were correct, I was being a buzzkill." You nudged him with your shoulder playfully. "No need to apologize, I knew what was going on. You just got jealous is all," arriving at the door to your apartment, you smiled at Gavin, "Thank you though, for walking me home that is."
You pressed a tender kiss to his cheek, blushing as you pulled away, "See you tomorrow, Gavin." Before you could turn around completely, Gavin grabbed your hand, pulling you back.
"Actually, if you don't have anything happening tomorrow after work, would you mind grabbing some dinner with me? My treat." His eyes were hopeful and you could tell he was being sincere.
Smiling slightly, you pressed yet another kiss to his cheek, "Of course, Gavin. I would be delighted to. Goodnight though, call me when you arrive safely." Gavin bid a farewell before rushing home just to call you.
