"Silvertongue, do we need anymore chocolate?"
"Do you think I'm some Asgardian moron?" He replied.
"Two bars of mint chocolate then," Halldora finished, placing the bars carefully in the trolley. If there was one chocolate they both loved, it was mint chocolate. Loki liked it because it was far from the Asgardian version of 'chocolate'. Asgardian chocolate could be described as, cardboard, strong cocoa with a powdery texture, and it didn't go with anything. Mint chocolate however, was the super-chocolate that blended into every other Midgardian desert he'd ever seen. Halldora liked mint chocolate because the mint always made her feel like she was exhaling ice, which obviously reminded her of Loki.
"What about ice-cream?" Loki asked, surprising her.
"You've never eaten ice-cream Silvertongue," she said, looking shocked before she frowned, "if I find out you've been eating my ice-cream behind my back-,"
"You'll blend me into a weird, spinach leaf, llama juice smoothie. I know," Loki replied. "And I wasn't referring to myself, I was just thinking of you." He added, looking away to pretend he hadn't said anything out of the ordinary.
"Alright, I'll get some icecream. Can you get us some more tea? I think we're running out," Halldora said, already half an aisle away from him.
"We can't run out of tea! I am an Asgardian! I'll waste away on only water," Loki said, his voice sarcastic as he pushed his way to the tea and smiled.
Meanwhile, as Halldora looked for her favourite, Cookies and Cream ice-cream, she was suddenly interrupted by a squeal at one end of the supermarket aisle. She turned and caught a glimpse of Torri before the girl bounded towards her for a hug. "Torri! How have you been?" Halldora said, wrapping her arms around the girl for a second.
"Dora! I'm so glad I caught you! Are we still on for Halloween at your place?" Torri asked, tilting her head even though she was still grinning.
"Of course! I'm in the middle of plans for costumes-,"
"Are you two going as a couple?" Torri smiled, looking like a teenager sussing out some who's who gossip.
"No! Of course not, I'm just making Loki's costume because he's never celebrated Halloween before." Halldora replied, blushing a little.
"Aw! Boyfriends first Halloween! Cute!" Torri kept grinning, though Halldora was mortified. "Who else is coming?" She asked.
"Tiffany, Mona, Chris, Derek, Charles, Tristan and a florist Loki knows, called Duke." Halldora said, counting off the people.
"That won't work," Torri frowned quickly.
"Why not?" Halldora asked.
"Well, you've got six guys and only four girls. It's odd numbers. Plus it won't work for a game." She replied, keeping somewhat vague on the 'game' she had in mind. Given she needed equal numbers of girls and guys, Halldora wasn't so sure about it.
"Are you sure? Because I don't know any other girls and I don't want it to get too crowded," Halldora said sensibly.
"How will people pair off though?" Torri said.
"Well, I think Duke already has a girlfriend," Halldora began.
"Invite her too,"
"Alright, but that still leaves one more, and I don't know any other girls," Halldora admitted.
"Don't worry, I know a gal," Torri was confident. A little too confident to reassure Halldora she knew what she was doing.
"You have it all sorted out, don't you?" Halldora asked, raising an eyebrow at her friend.
"Of course! I promise, that by the end of Halloween you and Loki will know exactly how you both feel. I promise!" She exclaimed, picking up a strawberry sorbet from the freezer.
"That's what I'm afraid of." She watched Torri skip away happily, and she went to go and find Loki again. Loki was still contemplating teas when she found him. "Exis-tea-crisis?" She asked as she put her ice-cream in the trolley. Loki hummed before turning to her.
"I never noticed," he mumbled quietly. Halldora was about to ask him 'what?' when he jumped and pulled a box confidently off the shelf. "Is that everything?" He asked.
"Yes," Halldora looked down at her list and nodded. "Loki, you know how we're having a party for Halloween?" She asked slowly, testing his reaction.
"Yes, what do I have to wear again?" Loki asked. He'd been trying for weeks to get Halldora to tell him what his costume was. She'd never fallen for his attempts yet though.
"That's a surprise," she snapped, before continuing, "I've got two more girls coming, because I realised it will be uneven otherwise."
"How so, Lady Wordsmith?" Loki asked.
"The ratio between women and men at the party. So people can have partners for dancing and games," she replied, slipping up when she mentioned games.
"Games? I thought you said it would just be dancing?" Loki asked, looking nervous.
"No! It's okay, you see, I met Torri in the ice-cream aisle and apparently she wants to play a game. I don't know what she's planning, but there had to be equal numbers." Halldora explained.
"Oh, alright," Loki replied, wheeling the trolley to the checkout.
"Oooh! Chewy mints!" Halldora said, looking at the lollies on the small shelf.
"Get two," Loki sighed though he smiled, watching her get excited. He was nervous about this apparent 'game' of Torri's, but he hoped he could push through it with making an idiot of himself.
