"Hey!" Duke smiled at Loki. He held out two boxes, wrapped in brown paper and decorated with miniature bouquets.

"Duke," Loki smiled, "we don't deserve gifts after all you've done for us."

"Nonsense!" Lola said from behind him. "What's today for if we can't shower friends with prezzies?" She grinned.

"Come in," Loki gestured, "You remember Halldora's friends, Tristan and Torri."

"And Adonis!" The barely adult boy piped up

"And Adonis!" The barely adult boy piped up.

Loki gritted his teeth. He hadn't wanted that child to come, but he'd just showed up with Torri. He couldn't kick Adonis out without Torri going too, and Halldora would never forgive him if he did that.

"Derek and Chris went home for Christmas," Tristan was telling the others. Loki had made peace with Halldora and Tristan being friends. Well, almost. He didn't like it when they were somewhere without him, but it was fine if Tristan existed sometimes.

"So, where is out hostess?" Duke asked, giving Loki a wink.

"Still getting ready," Torri replied.

"Probably can't decide on her shoes," Tristan added, "And Loki wouldn't let us see her."

Loki gave him an exasperated look. Of course his lady was fine. It wasn't his fault Tristan couldn't be trusted.

"Loki, we never asked," Lola beamed at him, "Do you have family you'll visit over Christmas?"

"Ah," Loki said, blood filling his cheeks. "Well, I'm actually adopted." He began to explain. They all seemed to sober up when he admitted it. None of them knew anything about Loki's past, and he'd been careful to keep it that way. Today though, he was making an exception.

"My brother doesn't think much of me, well, i don't believe he thinks much at all," Loki said. "And I always seemed to disappoint my father. The only one I miss is my mother this year." He wasn't lying, just not telling the whole truth. He was giving them a truth wrapped in furs, rather than a naked truth.

"You never said you had a brother!" Torri sat up excitedly, suddenly alert.

"He's far from being my brother," Loki explained, "He's their biological son, so we look nothing alike."
