It wasn't long before Loki and Halldora's apartment was filled with people chatting and dancing and nibbling. All in costume, and exactly twelve in number. Halldora circled the room so that she could talk to all of her friends, while Loki was quieter, leaning against the kitchen counter and making passing remarks to Duke the florist.

Halldora thought it was funny how much Loki and Duke contrasted the other men at the party. There were four other guys who Halldora was friends with. Chris and Derek had been roommates with Torri a few months when Halldora moved in with them, so she'd known them the longest. Chris was, for a better description, like an echidna wrapped in a snake, a bodybuilder with a nice, plastic orange finish to him.

Derek was the same build, height, and muscle mass as Chris, but he didn't really look it because he had dark shoulder length hair and a fair skin tone

Derek was the same build, height, and muscle mass as Chris, but he didn't really look it because he had dark shoulder length hair and a fair skin tone. And while Chris was as rough as they come, Derek was far better at using his hands to make things. In theory, Chris was the 'pretty muscles' and Derek was the 'work muscles'. Tonight, their costumes were like their personalities. Chris was in a caveman outfit, which left little to the imagination, and Derek was dressed as  a mad scientist.

The other two guys, Charles and Tristan, were the brains

The other two guys, Charles and Tristan, were the brains. Charles was Torri's best friend for a long time, he was tall, intelligent and funny. Torri used to joke that his humour was 'the only reason she kept him around'. Torri explained to Halldora when they first met that Chris and Derek were to look at, Charles was the funny one, and Tristan was the sweetheart. Charles was dressed fairly casually for the party, only in jeans and a t-shirt. Except on the tshirt was a photograph of himself eating a bowl of cereal. One look and Halldora rolled her eyes. You didn't need to be the goddess of wit to get the 'cereal killer' pun.
