Chapter 31: His Side

"A-ahmm.. Andrew, about the thing that I wanted to talk to you." She said while I'm in the middle of eating.

"What about it?" I asked after I put down the spoon and wipe the sides of my mouth with a table napkin.

Chloe is a good friend of mine since college, a friend for almost a decade. Pero siguro dahil matagal 'nong huli naming pagkikita, she somewhat feel new to me. A little bit awkward.

"I heard about your dilemma." She said after a brief time of silence.

I couldn't understand what dilemma she was talking about and I'm a little lost of what she said. At marahil kita sa mukha ko na naguguluhan dahil hindi ko napigilan na kumunot ang noo.

"Dilemma? About what?" I asked, puzzled.

She sighed deeply before she continue on talking.

"I heard you and Kaizer talked about your inheritance from your abuela." I was surprised for knowing that she knew about it. I should have been more careful when I told Kaizer about that.

Kailan pa ba nakikinig si Chloe sa usapan ng may usapan?

"Alam ko na naghahanap ka ng pwedeng pakasalan at magiging asawa. I just want to ask if you've already found one."

I was silent for awhile, fighting myself if I should talk about it or not with her. But in the end, I chose to tell her the truth. Wala namang mawawala sa akin kahit makumpirma niya ang narinig.

I don't know where this conversation is going but I think there's no harm on telling her since she's my friend.

"No, I haven't found anyone yet." I simply answered.

I waited for her next word. I'm starting to get curious why she is talking about it with me. I mean, there's no connection I can see.

It's been a really long time when we graduated college and way back on college, Chloe used to be so easy to read. Hindi ka rin naman niya kasi bibigyan ng pagkakataon na mag-isip dahil patungo ka pa lang sa pagbabasa ng iniisip niya ay sinasabi niya na ito. She's really talkative and loud but I think she changed. I miss her like that but I must admit I like her more now. A little mystery is good for her.

"Good. I mean, yeah g-good." She stuttered. She seems so nervous.

Ano ba ang nasa isip mo, Chloe? Isip ko. Ito yung mga pagkakataon na gusto ko yung dating siya. I want mystery but I don't like beating around the bush.

"Good? What's good about it?" I inquired, can't help the curiousity in me that she herself created.

"I'm willing to be that wife. Don't speak yet, let me finish." Surprise was an understatement. I was dumbfounded of what I heard.

Ngunit bago pa nga naman ako makapagsalita ay pinatahimik niya na ako. I let her talk even if I have so many questions runnning on my mind that moment. I can't believe that she's offering herself to be my wife.

Too much for a change.

"I'm not volunteering because I like you, let me clear that first before anything else." Oh, Cloe, that didn't even crossed my mind. I know you.

"I'm suggesting it because it could be beneficial to the both of us. You see, pinasusunod na ako ng mga magulang ko sa States at ang tanging paraan para hayaan nila ako na manatili sa Pilipinas ay kung kasal na ako at may asawa na. I came up with this idea dahil na rin sa narinig ko na pag-uusap niyo ni Kaizer." I see.
