Chapter 14:

Natalie's Perspective

"Get out of the car slowly!" says one of the masked men. I decide to step out first, but Dad grabs my hand. He stares at me and lets go.

They all stand lined up with big guns drawn on me. I step out of the car, fear racing through my mind. Dad steps out after me. "Now, put your hands up!" shouts another man. I put my hands up, knowing exactly what to do.

"What do you want?" I ask irritated. "What's your name?" the same one asks. I think of an Amity name. "Caroline" I reply. I am definitely not Candor.

"Caroline, no!" shouts Dad. Good, he's playing along. "Now, what do you want?" I say. I automatically remember that the Amity are afraid of guns.

Don't act so brave. "What faction?" they ask. I hear one of them cock a gun. I put a scared look on my face. "Please don't shoot me." I say in a small voice. "What faction?!" one of them shouts.

"Amity!" I say. "Then why are you wearing black?" asks one of them. Think. "I normally wear Amity clothes, but I was having a sleepover with one of my friends who is a Dauntless born, and I spilled make-up on my other clothes, so she let me borrow some of hers." I say shaking.

I glance over at Dad, he's standing up straight. One of them walks over to him with a gun to his chest, and yanks off his wig. I'm next...

"Alright, Four."  says the man. Dad shuts his eyes. The man points a gun to his head. "Where's Natalie?" shouts the man. A man walks towards me. He reaches for my wig to yank it off, but I dodge him. "No! It took me forever to get my hair like this!" I say twirling it.

"Why did you have this little girl in your car?" yells into Dad's ear. It infuriates me that I'm stuck her with a bunch of masked idiots asking who I am. I dodge the man with the gun to my head and flameshoot him with my right hand. (Flameshooting: Shooting with flames)

The others try to shoot me, but I flameshoot them all with both of my hands. I hear the bullets whizzing by, but my flames melt them. I tackle the man with the gun without thinking. He falls to the ground and I snatch his gun and shoot him in the head. His head whips back, and a spatter of blood coats my face. I spit some from my lip.

I wipe my face with my shirt. I stand up, and spit blood from my mouth. Dad looks around, making sure all the men are dead. He grabs the gun from me, takes my hand, and runs to the car. I hear him groaning in pain.

"Let go! I'm hurting you!" I say. His grip tightens, and I try to cool down. He stops groaning and opens the passenger door. He sets me in and opens the back door. I hear him dig around in the duffle bag and he comes back with green eye contacts on.

"Woah." I say as he shuts the door. "I know, it looks weird." he says as he starts the car. "No, it just looks....different." I say. He smiles. He reaches back and grabs a different wig. It's a short haired red head wig. He puts it on, and adjusts it.

He looks at me and I smile. He throws his head back and says, "How do I look, Caroline?" I laugh. "Dashing!" I say. He reaches into the glove box and pulls out wet wipes.

He hands them to me, and I wipe the blood from my face. I look around where we are and see nothing but fields. The wind blows the tall grass around, and I open the window. The sun reflects off of the rear view mirror and I close my eyes.

I smell the fresh grass as the wind blows the aroma all around my nose. I open my eyes, and close the window. Dad whips the car forward and I put on my seat belt. I stare out the window as he drives closer and closer to the market. Mom told me I was born here.
