Chapter 22:
Tobias' Perspective
I land hard in what it seems like to be in mud. I try and stand up, but my feet slip and I face plant into the mud. I get it all in my mouth and up my nose. I sit up and snort the mud out and spit it out. Gosh, it tastes so nasty.
I grab the hem of my shirt, and wipe it from my mouth and blow my nose. Ew. I lean over and wipe my shirt in the cool grass, which is partly lined with foot prints. I crawl over to the grass and stand up. I probably smell like a pig. I look up to see where a branch used to be, but the edges look burned.
Yep, she was here. I run towards the woods, not knowing where I'm going and keep jumping over thorns on the ground and logs. I have no idea where I'm going, and considering that there is no sign of Natalie, it took her a long time to get where she is. I keep running, and try to look for any sign that Natalie was here. I see nothing. I keep running and see a couple Bureaus.
I duck down, landing in a pile of leaves. I hear a hiss. I look over to see a snake sticking its tongue out and rapidly moving it up and down. I bite my lip, and roll over away from it. I feel the gun digging into my back, and hear a couple gunshots. They see me. I roll across a thorny vine, and bite my lip to keep from crying out. I pull the gun out from my waist band, and start shooting at the men.
I see a couple whip backwards from the force of the bullet, and others duck behind trees. Dang it. I don't dare standing up, so I roll over behind the tree, and hear the snake just two feet from me.
I get agitated at that hissing and just shoot its head. Blood spatters on my face, and in my mouth. I spit it out, and scrunch up my nose from the taste of it mixing with some of the mud. I see one poke its head around the tree, and I shoot him. His head flies backwards, and falls on the ground with a loud thud. I sit up straighter, and don't dare peek around the tree. I wish I was back at home with Tris and Natalie more than ever.
Tris is at the Amity Compound all by herself. Natalie has gone to the Bureau to kill herself. Could you trait something like that? If you could, she clearly traited that from Tris. Or it's the Abnegation in her. I have no idea how many Bureaus are here now.
I peek around the edge of a tree and feel a gun barrel on my neck. I sigh, knowing exactly what's happening. I drop the gun automatically, and stand up.
"Good. You've done this before." he says. I don't bother trying to run, because by the time he says that, we are surrounded. "Thought you and your kid were dead once you jumped off that cliff." he says. How did Natalie make it through here without getting caught, and I did?
"You should try it some time, it's called cliff jumping." I say through gritted teeth. "Maybe I will, once I get to stop looking for your stupid family." he says pressing the gun barrel harder into the back of my neck. The metal feels cold against my skin, but gets warmer as I get madder.
"Walk." he demands. I walk forward and step over the thorny vine I rolled onto. My back has blood dripping down it, and the man keeps the gun barrel pressed to my neck. "Why don't we just kill him right now?" one of them says, and from the voice, I can tell it's Peter.
"Because he wants the family alive." the one who has a gun on me says. We keep walking as I hear planes and the tree tops swaying from the wind, and dropping acorns on me. I see blue light about 50 yards ahead of me. I hear screams, and from the sound of it I can tell its Natalie. I thrash around, but some men grab me and their grip is too tight for me to break from them.
I feel more gun barrels on me, and just stop and bite my lip to the point where I taste my own blood. I kick around and try to wiggle from their grasp, but I can't I just can't..... I can see the building, and Natalie is running out of the double doors and her whole body is on fire. I scream for her, and she falls over onto the ground and rolls around. The ground catches fire. The men are too late, and they are running around, their bodies lit on fire. Natalie jumps up and cries out.
She grabs a can of something, and starts to dump it on the buliding. She is whooping. She flameshoots from her hands, and it catches fire. Gasoline. The men throw me on the ground, and I fall onto a runway. I hear tires screeching and see a plane coming up very fast. I jump up, but it's too late. I hear screams, and Natalie emerges from smoke and I look up and see the plane on fire.
The tires are very close to me, and Natalie stands over me, and keeps burning the whole thing. She turns around, not stopping. I sit up, and see that the whole plane has melted, and is nothing but melted metal. She steps away from me, and runs over to more jars of gasoline, and starts throwing it around. I stand up and see everything catching fire.
She didn't come to kill herself. She's killing them. I laugh, and see a whole bunch of men running from the burning building. I run over, and start to pour gasoline on the building, and throw cans of it onto the men as they drop their guns and Natalie catches them on fire.
She laughs, and runs inside the building. I see the whole thing go up in flames. More men run from the building and Natalie flameshoots them. More men run out, and I hear gunshots. I continue to pour gasoline on the building, and I see a familiar face. Caleb.
"What are you doing here?" I say. "Doing what you're doing!" he says tearing open a can and tossing it onto the roof. We continue to throw cans of it onto the roof, and Natalie catches it all on fire. The blue fire glows and I feel heat pressing against my face, and I'm sweating.
Pieces of the building fly out towards the runway. The whole place is becoming nothing but ashes. Natalie runs out of building yelling, "Run!!!!" Caleb and I run for the woods.
"It's gonna explode!!!" she shouts. We run as far as we can, but then jump behind a bush. The explosion goes on with a loud bang. I smell smoke, and....barbecue? "Anybody else smell barbecue?" says Caleb looking around.
We all laugh and nod. We stand up and see men running to us. We all get up and run, I feel a bullet enter my back. I yell out in pain, and Natalie stares at me in horror. She turns around, and burns them. Caleb continues to run, but he's biting his lip in pain, and I can tell that he was shot. Natalie screams out, and almost falls over, but she keeps running with tears streaming down her face.
My back is aching, and it's hurting me more than the bullet does to see Natalie in pain. Blood is coming from her shoulder, and Caleb is holding is arm to his chest. We all keep running, and Natalie keeps trying to shoot them, and a lot of them fall over, and the air is filled with the smell of barbecue. Caleb is moaning, and my back is slowly healing.
Natalie's tears no longer flow from her face as I look over at her, and she begins to run faster now that the pain is become a numb throbbing. I hear more gunshots, and I get shot in the wrist.
I yell out, and Natalie stops and holds her hands out and continues to burn them. Where do they get all of these men from? I turn around and see Natalie continuing to shoot them. Caleb turns around.
"Looks like I underestimated her." he says. I ignore him, and run back to Natalie, and grab her. "Dad, I'm so sorry. I changed my mind about turning myself in. I'm sorry." she says. I'm holding her like a baby, and she holds onto my shirt and cries into my chest. Caleb jumps over a log, and I turn back to see no men running after us. We slow, down and then stop.
"Been a long time, Four." says Caleb. I look up at him. "Yeah, it sure has." I say.
Yes! It's burned down! I'm going back to school now, and I probably won't be able to update as soon as I thought....sorry. Oh, in case you didn't know, but the bullets they were shot with were the ones Jeanine created, the ones that heal the wound. Please keep reading! Don't forget to vote and comment! :)
