Chapter 38:
Natalie's Perspective
Dad sighs, and I try and find my way out of the tangled blankets. "Dad, where are you?" I say. "I have no idea." he says.
I push one more blanket out of the way, and find light. I crawl out, and pull the blankets off of Dad. "Thanks." he says, and gets up. We grab the huge pile of blankets, and walk into the living room. We set them down on the couch and plop down on top of them.
"That was tiring." I say. He nods in agreement. "What's for dinner?" I ask. "Nachos." he says. I nod, and stare at the carpet. "Thirsty?" he says. I nod. "What do you want?" he says. "Uh, pickle juice!" I say. He chuckles and nods.
I know that sounds weird but it tastes really good. I've been drinking it since I was six. He comes back with a glass of my pickle juice, and him with root beer. I take a sip and he shakes his head. "What?" I say. "That stuff is disgusting." he says, and takes a sip of his root beer.
I take a huge gulp on purpose. "MHHHMMM!!!!" I say. He chuckles and shakes his head, taking another sip of it. I really like pickle juice, but some people don't agree with it.
Yeah, it's sour and tart but it is AMAZING. I finish the glass, and set it down on the coffee table. He finishes his, and sighs. "So, what are we gonna do when you're the only one who gets sick?" he says.
I shrug and lean on his shoulder. "Well, at least I won't have to take care of the both of you. Like last time." I say. He rubs his face, and chuckles.
"I remember that." he says. Just a couple months ago, both of them got the stomach flu at the same time. It was awful. I was cleaning puke off of the floors and the actual toilet seat. It was Dad that kept missing the toilet when he puked. Which I find funny, because he has great aim with a gun.
I also had to constantly go in their room in the middle of the night to check if they puked in their sleep. I didn't get much sleep that week.
I had to give them their medicine every couple of hours too. Then Mom threw her medicine back up, and I had to give it to her again. Then I had to check their temperature every so often and give them cold ice packs to help keep it down.
My week was covered in puke. Literally. Mom and Dad both puked in the bed twice, and all over the floor. (Which I had to clean!) By the time I finally got to go do home school, everybody said that I stunk. It was embarrassing.
"Both of you made the whole house stink!" I say. He runs his hand through his hair. "Yeah...." he says. "I had to do all of the things that needed be done around the house that week." I say. It was true. Mom couldn't even get up without puking on herself.
"Yeah, and we also didn't got to work that week, which meant that we didn't get our paycheck." he says. Yep, and we didn't have very many groceries that week either. Good thing too because the two of them would have just thrown it up anyways.
"Dinner!" shouts Mom. We start to get up, but she yells again. "Wait, wait! Let's eat in the living room!" Dad and I sit back down, and wait for her to come. She comes in with a huge bowl. "Woah." I say.
I mean seriously, it's a HUGE bowl. She sets it down on the coffee table in front of us, and sits down next to Dad. I stare for a long time on what has been set down in front of us. They are nacho Doritos with loads of cheese, salsa, and more cheese toppled on top. My mouth drops open.
I can't believe that Mom actually made this. She's usually all about healthy crap. And this has NOTHING in it that's healthy. "Come on! Lets's eat!" Mom says. Dad takes a chip and starts to lift it out of the bowl, but a huge string of cheese comes along with it.
"Geez, Tris how much cheese did you put on this?" Dad says. He is still lifting the chip up, and more cheese is dangling from the chip. He is having to lift his arm up higher and higher. "Woah!" I say. He is STILL lifting it up, until I shoot a small flurry of fire at it, and it melts, falling back into the bowl.
"Thank you!" Dad says. He takes the string and wraps it around the chip. My mouth is wide open. "Mom, don't be surprised if I have gained thirty pounds after this nutritional meal!" I say sarcastically. Dad snorts and he holds his hand to his mouth.
"Ha ha!" she says, and bites into a chip. I would have liked the chicken fried rice MUCH better than this. I take a chip, and gladly there is no endless cheese string.
After about fourteen chips, I lay on the couch with a HUGE belly. "Ohhhh....." I say. Dad sits next to me moaning, and Mom is splayed across his lap also moaning.
"Why did I eat that?" Mom says. "More importantly, why did you make it?" Dad says groaning. "Shut uppp....." Mom says, slurring. I moan again. I feel like I'm gonna throw up. "We are defiantly running laps tomorrow...." Dad says. I moan again.
Oh my gosh, why in the world did I eat so many? So much cheese.......I try to stand up, but fall back on the couch making my belly groan in disapproval of me moving around. "Natalie, would you mind cleaning up one more pile of throw up?" Dad says.
"Dad....no...." I say. "Ughhh...." he moans. "Make it to the bathroom....." I say. "I was kidding.....I....think....." he says. "Please be kidding....." Mom says. "I hope so....It probably will taste worse coming up than going down......" he says.
I want to laugh, but my body denies. Mom burps, and Dad groans. "Please don't puke on my lap." Dad says. "I can't be absolutely sure........" Mom says.
"Yes.....you have to...be sure!" Dad says. "Hey.....I threw up even.....more than I did....when I was.....pregnant with....Natalie." Mom says. "You threw up more than you did when the both of you were sick?" I say, hiccuping.
She nods, and Dad sighs. Yeesh, she threw up at least twenty times that week, but when she was pregnant with me, she threw up even more? Thank God I wasn't there.........
My eye lids get heavy, and I hear Dad's steady breaths and Mom's purr of breathing. I fall asleep.
I AM SO SORRY THAT I HAVEN'T UPDATED IN A LONG TIME! I have had a REALLY busy week, and didn't even have time to work on this story. I am soooooooo sorry! As you probably noticed, I have started splitting them up into small paragraphs. It is much more easier to read that way. (For me, at least) Plus, it looks more neat that way. I kind of threw this chapter together at the last minute so it might be really suckish. Anyway, I know someone has been asking for cliff hangers and I will try and put some in! I have a couple ideas.......Don't forget to vote and comment! :)
