Chapter 45:

Tris' Perspective

"Wait, there's more than one Compound?" I say. Shauna nods, and my mouth drops open. I look over at Tobias who is staring out the window, probably not listening to a word we're saying.

"We also have a special name for our Alliance." Uriah says. "What?" I say. "Don't know, we can't think of anything." says Shauna.

"Then why did you say you had a name?" I say. "Don't know." says Uriah. I scoff and look over at Tobias who is staring out the window. "What do you think it should be?" I say to him. "Huh?" he says turning his head to look at me.

I sigh. "What do you think the name of the Alliance should be." I say. He smiles and stares at my chest. My eyes widen. Is he seriously looking at my boobs? I am wearing a tank top after all.....

"The Ravens." he says. My fingers touch my collarbone where my raven tattoo is. I smile and look at him. "What?" says Shauna. "The Ravens." says Tobias not looking away from me. "Hmmm, I like it." Shauna says.

I smile and stare into Tobias' deep blue eyes. Every time I look into his eyes, it feels like I am going to melt. "When are we going to be able to see Natalie?" says Tobias looking at the wheel. "Well, the problem is, we don't know." says Uriah.

"What do you mean problem?" I say through gritted teeth. All I want is to see her. I want to know that she is alive and breathing. All I want to do is to hold her in my arms and let her know that everything will be okay.

"Her nose is fractured, a couple of ribs broken, and a broken leg. And that's just what we've been told. They said that they're still discovering new injuries in her." says Uriah. I never wanted anything like this for her.

She was supposed to live a painless life where she wasn't constantly running. "So they haven't even discovered all of her injuries yet?" says Tobias staring intensely at Uriah. "That was the last update we got on her." says Shauna.

I sigh, and pull my palms to my face. They smell distinctly of metal. I feel warm arms wrap around my shoulders, and he pulls me to his chest and folds his arms around me. I bury my face in his chest and sigh heavily, breathing in his scent.

He also smells like metal, and sweat. Everything around us is slowly crumbling, but when I'm in his arms it feels as if he's a shield that blocks everything from the outside world. "Everything is gonna be okay." Tobias says.

I nod with tears in my eyes. "Alright? We're gonna get to see her soon." he says. I nod again. "Hey!" he says. I look up into his eyes and he's staring back down at me. "What?" I mumble. "It's going to be okay." he says.

We stare a little longer before I collide my lips with his. He takes my face in his hands, and I wrap my arms around his neck. I press closer to him. "Okay, we may all have been caught making out with our spouses, but this is getting nasty!" Uriah says.

We pull away, and I kiss him one last time. We pull away, and I lay my head on his chest.

After another hour in the car, we finally arrive at the Dauntless Compound. I bolt from the car, and then I feel someone grab my wrist. I look back to see that it's Uriah, keeping me from getting to her. "Uriah, let go! I have to get to her!" I shout.

"You can't until they've found all of her injuries!" he yells back. I yank his wrist off of me and run straight for the doors. I swing them open and run across the Pit, towards the hospital.

I hear footsteps behind me but it only makes me run faster. I can see the doors and I'm so close until someone grabs me. "TRIS YOU NEED TO WAIT!" Uriah shouts. Tears are spilling from my face, but sweat is making my face even wetter.

"I DON'T CARE, I NEED TO SEE HER!" I yell throwing myself from his arms. He grabs my ankle as I claw at the floor, trying to get away. He pulls me back and holds me. I stop fighting, and just lay my head on his shoulder and yell in frustration.

"Shauna! Lea-" I hear Tobias shout from behind me. Uriah is walking up the stairs and I realize that he's taking me back to our apartment. "Why are you-?" I start but he interrupts. "You need to sleep, I'll wake ya'll up when you can see Natalie." he says.

I look around his arm, and see Shauna pushing him down the hall. "Shauna! STOP!" he shouts. He opens up the apartment door and walks me straight to Natalie's room. He pushes the door open with his foot, and lays me on her bed.

I bury my face in her pillow and cry. It smells like her hair, and a little bit like dust. I gather the pillow in my arms, and get underneath the covers. Her blankets immediately warm me as if she was there with me, hugging me.

I feel the bed jostle, and see that Tobias is splayed across the foot of the bed, crying. I shift into the fetal position and cry into the pillow. Luckily, she has a queen sized bed and he can lay here too. He rolls around, and at the same time is yelling out.

All I want to do is see her. I don't even know how many wounds she has now. All I know is that she has three ribs broken, a fractured nose, and a broken leg. She could have more. Not to mention how much her wrists bled while being chained up.

"TRIS!" shouts Tobias. "WHAT?" I say jolting up. I hear a thump, and realize that he's fallen off the bed. I wipe my cheeks, and sigh. "You screamed at me just because you were falling?" I say. He gets back up and lays down next to me,

"Yes, I was falling." he retorts. I scoff and lay back down. We're gonna see her. Soon. It may not be now, but it will be soon. I can survive that long. I have before, this isn't very hard. I'll just be laying in her bed, waiting to see her.

Yeah, this is harder than what I convinced myself of. I look up at the portrait of all of us together that she has. I look away with more tears in my eyes, and close them.

"Tris! Four! Wake up! You can see her now!" shouts Uriah as he nudges my shoulder. I sit up and watch Uriah walk from the room. I slap Tobias' shoulder and he sits up. "Can we see her now?" he says. I nod and run straight for the door.

He follows me out the door, and down the stairs. We run across the Pit, and to the hospital double doors. I swing them open, and realize that I need to be a little more calmer. There are people staring at us after all......

I walk to the front desk and a woman is sitting behind it, staring at the screen. "When is Natalie Eaton available for visiting?" I ask quickly. She looks up at me, and looks down at her screen. "Right now." she mumbles. I nod.

"Room 578." she says. I nod faster this time. "She's in the ICU." she says. I nod slower this time. The ICU? She's hurt that bad? Oh gosh..... We run right down the ICU hall, and I scan the doors for her room number.

We're still in the three hundreds. I groan, and I hear Tobias grunt as he dodges a gurney being rolled down the hall. We get into the four hundreds, and I see doctors rolling a gurney up ahead with a young girl on it.

They are running the opposite direction. I hear them yelling all types of things. I can only make out bits and pieces of it. "Shock.....too........gone!" they yell. I run faster towards them, and I can see the young girl. I don't recognize her from all the bruises and cuts at first, but her image is clear.

Natalie.
