My outfit for the day sits in front of me.
I pull on the black leggings.
I cannot help but stare at the top.
Why did my mom have to give me such awful choices for tops?
The top is white and fairly short, none of the tops she packed me go past my hips.
This one is short sleeve too, it has a red rose on the top right corner.
I tear up as I pull the shirt over my head.
Where are all the mirrors?
I need to see how I look in this.
"You haven't noticed, no mirrors except the eye level ones in the bathroom." Kayla says as she enters our room. "But trust me, you look great." She tells me.
Her outfit is similar to mine, black leggings, and a light pink top, short sleeve of corse.
"Please don't drag me to breakfast." I beg her.
"Sorry Si, I need to." She tells me. "And besides, you need to meet everyone today, so no two hour meal."
"Kayla, you can't pressure me to eat more than I need to." I tell her.
"Don't worry, breakfast is usually light, especially with how new you are." She tells me.
I better just get this over with.
I pull on my white sneakers before she drags me to the cafeteria.
This time she drags me to a different table, one of the biggest here, it fits eight rather than six like the rest of them.
At the table sits four girls and a boy, leaving one empty seat.
"Jamie will be with you for at least a week, for meals at least, but she will stay with you after if you take as long as you did at dinner." Kayla informs me.
Trays begin to get set in front of everyone.
I look at their trays, everyone has a breakfast sandwich.
"Lucky for you, all the bagels are covered in cheese already. This is all we have for breakfast for you." Jamie tells me.
About one hundred calories of fruit sit in front of me along with almond milk, this time plain with no added sugar.
They couldn't have started me off with this?
Jamie takes the seat next to me as she did yesterday.
"Sierra, this is Ella, Amy, and Penny." She tells me, gesturing at the three girls on her left. "And this is Jessie and Ben." And says, referring to the boy and girl on Jamie's right.
"Nice to meet you all, I'm Sierra." I say.
"Nice to meet you too." Amy says.
Immediately I recognize them as the girls from the bathroom based on her voice.
Why wouldn't it be them?
"Ignore everything Penny says by the way, that's what we do." Ella tells me, Penny must be the one who already hates me.
"I didn't know black girls could even get eating disorders." Penny states. "And how can your parents even afford this place? It's kind of really expensive, do they really have that kind of money?" She questions.
How can someone be this stupid.
"Well, I guess the eating disorder must come from the white half of me. And just because my mom is black, doesn't mean my family is poor, so I would appreciate it if you stopped assuming false stereotypes are true, and actually respect others." I fire back, saying something that makes as much sense as whatever she just said.
