The couple were in the train headed to London before dinnertime. Whenever the feeling of guilt crept back to Alice she would apologize profusely to Freddie who in turn would silence her with kisses. To him the past was the past and that one week of separation taught them a lot about each other. On the two-hour train ride, the couple had a discussion, hunching their shoulders with their faces towards each other, the shape of a heart, and clingy Alice had her legs rested to his thighs.
When Alice explained herself, which sounded more self-deprecating as she partly blamed her hormones, Freddie's mind was miles away. At that moment he was reminded of the girl he'd fallen in love with, he felt he was the ultimate Freddie with her. Loving Alice made him feel great, after all the scars he had gotten from past relationships, loving her made him feel alive. She was genuine, innocent, dramatic at times and utterly young with her own life that he had to exert himself just to keep up with her. Deep down Freddie was worried if he does not keep up with her; she would find him a boring old man and eventually leave him.
"Are you even listening Freddie?" Alice complained leaning away from him at the corner of her seat, her arms crossed to the chest. She noticed the whole time she was talking, Freddie would look at her lips and then back to her gaze, the involuntary swallowing he was exhibiting was a sign as well. She continued her rant, "I've just been thinking a lot about how you've been snapping at me and it's really been affecting me. So to me it was one more push, it's the straw that broke the camel's back. I thought to myself How can he keep talking to me like this? And I just... I don't know how to make you stop because you think you're being passionate but it hurts my feeling Freddie. I'm not used to being treated like that."
"Listen darling," Freddie blurted correcting his posture. "I just prove to you---"
"No Freddie! it's the combination of the words and how you talk to me," she insisted, her forehead was crinkling into a frown.
"I get that darling, I do. But I'm not going to do that because that's not who I am. I am not going to completely re-construct who I am to become this calm person. This is me," Freddie clarified stubbornly.
Alice bit her inner cheek, "Okay but you can't watch how you talk to me just a little bit?"
"I told you Alice, I told you that whenever I'm passionate and I get fucking going like this, I'm not going to---" Freddie paused at a loss of words. "Fine, I will watch what I say and what I mean to you."
"I would think that the more you love me, the more you'd want to be more calm and understanding. With me being pregnant you'd want to make me feel more comfortable and not snapping at me and you would watch what you would say a little bit. I'm a girl Freddie, I'm not like your past boyfriends. I should be treated like a princess, how you treat me is a big deal. I cater to you a lot, I feel like I treat you like a king or however you want to put it but I feel like I cater to you, a lot." Alice rambled on.
She was right, Freddie thought. It had been a while since he was in a committed relationship with a woman, a young woman in the case of Alice. With his past relationships he'd spark unnecessary arguments or fights, he wanted them to prove that they love him, the real him, not the Rockstar Freddie. But with Alice it was different, and he knew why, because she was worth it.
"Listen I agree, and I'm sorry. When you were being hormonal and difficult I was supposed to be there for you and instead I--- I ignored you or worst, I snapped back at you. Looking back, I hated myself for it..." he paused. He broke off her crossed arms at her chest, "I realized I was punishing you for it and in turned you--- You left. Worst at one point, I convinced myself what had happened was your fault. And it's not." He leaned forward to Alice bringing her arms to wrap him by the neck, he nudged their noses asking for forgiveness.
"I was wrong too. I'm sorry love," she insisted tucking her hair behind her ears. "I'm sorry, for leaving you. For leaving us."
Freddie breathe the scent of her and planted a soft kiss to her lips, he then found his fingers unbuttoning her blouse, loosening to reveal the hollow of her clavicle, and Freddie planted his lips in that small indentation, filling the gap. Alice rolled her eyes pulling away from him, "Can you not babes, we're in public."
He dropped kisses going upwards to her lips. With one quick peck he whispered looking her dead-set in the eyes, "And if you ever leave me again Alice Ainsworth, I assure you, you won't survive the make-up sex after." A threat disguised as another pleasure act. She giggled back, her skin hot with his threat. The coaxing, the faint intimidation, him using guilt erotic and if Freddie doesn't get his way, he'll set his punishment in motion. That reminded her why she was utterly in love with him.
The couple spent the next two-hour journey snuggling, Alice laid by his arms her thigh on top of his with one hand intertwining each other's. She talked thoughtfully like she was telling a secret, occasionally she would leaned closer to look him in the eye making sure he was paying attention to her.
"Freddie are you even listening?" Alice grumbled her fingers tugging on his unkempt moustache.
"Yes. Yes I am---" Freddie answered a bit off guard. He was barely listening, merely catching keywords. He was more focused on her radiant milky skin and her pulpy pink lips, to him she was the most beautiful girl in the world. The pregnancy glow helped as well.
"Fine where did I stop?" Alice quizzed him, her tone serious.
"Something about your dancing colleague Alexa taking your spot for The Rockette auditions in New York, because Poppy from ballet told the management that you are indeed, pregnant." Freddie said confidently, not missing a beat.
"Exactly! Oh my, you were listening." Alice giggled feeling guilty. She then continued on her story, one week away meant there was a lot for Freddie to catch up on. Midway speaking through her stories, Freddie would randomly sneak a few quick kisses to her forehead and played with her bangs. She would pause to give him an eye roll annoyed that he was not focusing on her story, but continued anyway.
"How many Freddie?" Alice broke his trail of thoughts.
"Sorry---?" Freddie blurted out nervous that he was caught off guard, playing with her hair.
"How manyyyy..." she whined looking up to him with a crinkled forehead.
And then it struck Freddie, "Oh, two."
"Two? Okay, girls or boys?" Alice asked turning her body around and lifting her legs to rest on Freddie's lap.
"One of each," Freddie answered confidently, that question had always been a tricky one for the couple.
"Okay, what are their names?" Alice leaned in their face inches from each other.
"Sid and Nancy?" Freddie said waggling his eyebrows up and down with a cheeky smile.
"Babes, come onnn!" Alice laughed a pirate-wench laugh and hit him playfully by the chest.
"Ezra and Elle," he finally said, one hand rubbing her tummy.
"Where pray tell; will me and the kids live?" Alice put her hand on top of his, rested to her tummy.
"Garden Lodge during school season, for holidays we can go to Monteux if you prefer or---" Freddie spew out random suggestions.
"Don't leave me Freddie," Alice cut his sentence off, looking up to meet his gaze pensively.
"I won't ever leave you darling. Never. I'll give you everything you want Alice," Freddie said it word by word, meaning it, leaving his lips kiss-puckered baiting her. She smiled at him and kissed his lips very softly.
"I love you," she said after pulling away.
Freddie kissed her at the forehead and mumbled through her bangs, "I love you too." They sat in silence for the whole evening until they reached the St. Pancreas Station.
