In the middle of a recording session in Montreux studio, all of the Queen members took a much-deserved break having pizzas for lunch. Each member ordered their preferred toppings and huddled at the back with the sound engineers having small talk to distress.
"I fully understand what you guys were talking about," Freddie said to his bandmates with a mouthful of pizza. "If I wrote out the list of shit that Alice doesn't let me do it would be endless." At this point, Freddie and Alice had been together for more than 6 months and as the saying goes, their honeymoon phase is over.
"Seriously Fred? Like what?" Roger asked suppressing himself from laughing. Brian and John exchanged looks trying not to laugh at poor Freddie.
"Don't sleep too late. Don't have samurai swords in your room. Don't smoke cigarettes. Don't drink beer anymore. I could go on all fucking day. I mean have I told her to stop doing anything ever? No," Freddie expressed pouring chili flakes to his pizza slice with a grudging look. Things are well in their relationship but as they are away from each other at the time, Alice had been very hormonal.
"Relationship is exactly like that show 'Coronation Street'; but minus the humour. All the problems are the same, but it's..." John paused finding the word to finish his sentence.
"Instead of all the funny, romantic dialogue, everybody's just really pissed off and tense. Relationships are like an unfunny, tense version of 'Coronation Street'; but it doesn't last an hour. It lasts forever," Brian added tapping Freddie on his shoulder as an encouragement.
"You know what, let's get out of here, man. Honestly, after pizza let's get smashed at the bar." Roger suggested cheerfully. John who was beside him raised an eyebrow grinning from ear to ear, he was always down for a cocktail or two.
"You know what? Let's do it!" Freddie finds himself agreeing.
Freddie's frustration with Alice was triggered earlier that day. He was on the phone with Alice, who was in New York to prepare for her audition to join The Rockettes. He made the foolish mistake of telling Alice that he had met with an old friend, Jane, with a few other friends for a dinner the night before. Alice reacted badly to it, voicing out all her paranoid assumptions due to Jane being there.
