Still in her first trimester and Alice had become more or less hormonal. Her mood swings were notorious that most of the help in Garden Lodge would avoid to cross paths with her. It was a Friday morning and Alice was having a bowl of fruits in the living room while flipping through the newspaper. Freddie was lying on the couch while watching Coronation Street. Casually Roger walked in with a bowl of popcorn, settling himself on the opposite couch to watch the show with Freddie.
"Holly molly have you read the headline today? A pedophile was arrested in Queensgate Terrace!" Alice announced, holding the newspaper closer.
"Oh hey, they have a small ukulele store near that road." Freddie chimed in, though his eyes glued to the screen.
"It's a pedophile Freddie. Those people live near our neighborhood," she explained, peeved.
Freddie took a deep breath, Alice was at it again. These days she had these tendencies of picking a fight with him over anything and everything, especially when he's trying to enjoy something. He slowly turned his head reluctantly to glance at her, "Okay. Noted. We will skip that road when we go trick or treating next time. Bejabberz Alice, I mean what do you want me to do, join the community's Night Watch?"
"No you just--- You shouldn't take it so lightly," Alice put the newspaper down.
"Okay then, noted. Conversation over. Now can I just enjoy my sh---"
"You know if I don't care about these things, you wouldn't care about anything. Just--- Care more!" Alice blurted out. Freddie took a deep breath, composing himself. Roger began to chew slowly, trying his best to focus on the tv show instead of the actual drama in the living room.
Freddie lifted his body and sat himself on the couch. His face moody, "Alice darling you're so concerned with these stuff, about vaccinations, excluding fish from your diet now because there's too much mercury, how fucking ironic is that! Good lord how much National Geography Documentaries have you been watching?" Roger started to smack his lips swiftly, his head brainstorming what excuses he could use to leave the room.
Alice looked Freddie straight in the eye, her hands folded and rested on her growing tummy. "I know we're supposed to be nice with each other right now because Roger is here... But I'm having a really hard time to do that," Alice said through gritted teeth.
"What did I do this time darling? Breathe?" Freddie poked the bear.
"Because I want to rip your fucking head off, because you're so fucking stupid! Don't you get it? This shit is scary!" she yelled at him while pointing to the newspaper. Roger wet his lips, his hands still grabbing the popcorn and shoving it forcefully into his mouth. Somehow the actual drama ongoing in front of him was more intense than the current episode they're watching.
"These are children getting kidnapped and sexually assaulted you dickhead!" Alice yelled riled at Freddie's unbothered face.
Freddie steadily reached for a handful of popcorn from Roger's popcorn bowl, "I am at a point where I don't know what to say."
"So I'm the annoying hormonal pregnant woman just because I'm trying to protect our babies from pedophiles and you're cool because you don't give a shit?" Alice yelled her hand to her tummy. Her face was red, fuming at Freddie's nonchalant behavior.
"Uhuh," Freddie said indifferently staring at the screen, munching the popcorn.
"Uhuh?! Is that it?" Alice yelled back.
"Pretty much---"
"God you're such an asshole!" Alice slowly dragged her body up to leave the couch.
Freddie was quick to turn and glance at Alice, "Come on darling, we don't have to do this in front of Roger."
"I don't give a shit about Roger!" Alice yelled leaving the room.
"Sorry Rog," Freddie mumbled to an anxious Roger. Roger simply nodded, his eyes still on the screen.
"All good, all good." Roger mumbled. He looked back to Freddie with pursed lips, "You know you should check on her."
Freddie gave Roger a reluctant nod, "She's been utterly hormonal these days I just can't..."
"Yeah dude but--- It's... You know what I do when I can't stand Dominique being bitchy like that, I just look at her feet..." Roger explained.
"Feet?" Freddie jerked back shocked.
"Yeah, their feet are swollen as fuck Freddie, because they're carrying our baby. I mean--- You just gotta let it slide you know," Roger patted Freddie's knee.
