After the unsuccessful proposal, the group ran out of things to say. The drinks were being carefully drunk: Bomi and Jer mentioned about their power walk appointment with their friends the next morning, Freddie and Alice would leave back to London after breakfast, they were winding down. After dessert, they were getting dull-witted, a cloud of gawkiness looming in the room, the group dispersed hugging each other good night.

Freddie was the first to go up into his room. Alice pushed her chair back under the table, her guilty expression picked up by Jer. She invited Alice for tea in the kitchen while the maid helped to clean up the dining table. Jer was cautious to not ask Alice why she did not accept her son's proposal, instead she asked about how did they met, how Alice handled Freddie's quirks. Jer even took out the old photo album from the living room to show Alice baby pictures of Freddie, sharing stories of her own experience going through two pregnancies and tips on how to handle cravings.

"I think I might develop a craving for masala tea now," Alice took a quick sip from her cup.

"All you need dear, is some mortar, crush the cloves, cardamom pods and cinnamon. Add ginger and pepper for that added spice," Jer explained carefully.

Cravings aside, they'd talk about Alice and her pregnancy

Cravings aside, they'd talk about Alice and her pregnancy. Jer caressed her tummy and confidently said, "Your stomach is round, I bet its a girl."

"Oh you think so?" Alice placed her palms on top of Jer.

"Uhuh," Jer replied smiling.

An hour in, both Jer and Alice decided to call it a night. Alice was thankful that Jer never mentioned about dinner, because to her it was never about her being unsure about spending the rest of her life with Freddie. She knew there was no one else she'd rather spend her life with, giving up her 20s was never a problem. As she walked upstairs, Alice froze at the front door of the bedroom, she stood still, hands on the handle of the door. Taking a deep breath, she waded into the air-conditioned room. Freddie was already naked under the covers, holding out a magazine.

"What are you reading?" Alice asked releasing her tousled bun.

"A piece on Don Quixote, the ballet show my Baba and I was talking about earlier." Freddie stole a glance towards Alice, she stood by the mirror and started to remove her earrings.
