"I can't get used to you not being here."

Rain poured outside of the classroom window as English class was in session.

The soft sounds of pitter patter hit against the outside windowsill, causing damp spots on the concrete material. I was a pluviophile so having a seat near the window while it rained was like an invitation to heaven and a mouse trap for my eyes. My eyes followed every drop it could as it fell from the sky. The rain wasn't in the weather forecast when I had checked in the morning and unfortunately, I hadn't brought an umbrella with me but I had hoped that the rain would stop by the time school was over.

"Pst."

"Hey."

"Y/N."

I blinked, turning to look at my classmate Eunwoo, who had been trying to get my attention.

"Huh?" I asked without a clue of what was going on.

"You're my partner." He beamed.

I looked side to side and then back to him. "Partner for what?"

He seemed rather shocked by my response, backing up in his chair.

"Since when does Y/N not pay attention?"

"Sorry." I gave an apologetic smile. "I seem to have gotten a bit distracted."

"So it seems." He nodded. "I'll catch you up, don't worry. Basically, we have to create a presentation about our overall outtake on the memoir we read. Mrs. Smith wants to be able to see clear comparisons in our project. This is pretty much our final project for the year."

"Which means we're this much closer to graduation." I hovered the tips of my index finger and thumb against each other, making a squeezing gesture.

"The more reason to be excited. I can't wait to move out of my house."

"Move out?"

"I'm moving to the states. They have really good educational opportunities and both I and my parents believed it was the best choice for me."

I nodded. "That's really great, Eunwoo! I wish you the best of luck."

He smiled, his dimples sinking into his skin. "Thanks, Y/N. How about you?"

I shrugged. "My parents seem to have my college journey planned out already. They want me to stay here."

Noticing my change in mood, he seemed as if he didn't want to get into the topic too much; being cautious with his words.

"Well as long as you're still set on being a doctor."

"Oh, of course. I'm very passionate about working in the medical field."

"You'll make it. You always were set to do great things in life."

"Thanks, Eunwoo. I really hope so. It would be quite a shame if I were the only one in our class to end up being a failure in life."

"Yeah, the one and only Y/N? Is that even possible?"

He laughed at his own rhetorical question, causing me to form a laugh of my own.

"Eunwoo and Y/N, I sure wish to know what's so funny about the assignment I had given you both to discuss."

Both I and the male's eyes turned to look at our teacher who had one hand placed on her hip with glaring eyes.
