THE EXOTIC DANCER CHAPTER 003
"Family"

• S U N D A Y •

I groan, waking up early Sunday morning as my alarm blares. When I finally manage to open my eyes im surprised to see Lucy standing over me looking ready for the day. Whereas I am not.

I get up quickly, pulling my legs up and over the side of the bed. Lucy hums a song as she waits for me patiently.
I've come to realize her sitting there waiting for me only makes me feel more anxious and rushed.

When my feet hit the hardwood floors of our bedroom the cold feeling rushed through my body fairly quick. I shiver slightly before walking to my closet to get ready. I pull on my uniform, wrapping the belt through the loops around my waistline. Then Slipping on a pair of sneakers before reaching out to my bedside table, grabbing my bag and keys.

I've never put Lucy into a cab by herself. I go to school with her on the days she has practice and then walk or take the cab back to the diner from there.

We walk down the stairs of the building seeing Joe once again sitting in the lobby starting out of the big windows. Seeming pretty mesmerized by the scene that plays out before him. People driving around, living their lives.

You would think over time he would get bored of the same old program playing over and over again. But he never seems to.

"Have a good day Mr. Joe." Lucy says smiling as she goes out to stop a taxi for us.

He sends her his signature smile as i give him his daily kiss on the cheek. "I'm begging you to go get some fresh air today Joe. Life is passing you by and you only see about five percent of it through this window here."

He looks up at me and sighs with a smile. "How about this, you bring me an extra muffin today when you get back, and me and you can take a walk Monday when you come to clean."

"You've got a deal." I smile. Lucy standing outside the window waving her arms at me dramatically before hopping into the back seat of the taxi she stopped.

I'm continuously surprised with how independent she is becoming.

I walk to the double doors at the front of the building and pull the left one open, sending Joe one last smile before stepping outside. Quickly disappearing from his sighs as I dip down into the back seat of the taxi with my sister.

The trip to drop her off at practice consists of her rambling on about all the people in her school.
I turn to look out the window. Pressing my forehead to the glass, still paying close attention to every word that she says.
