THE EXOTIC DANCER CHAPTER 005✔ "Love Myself"
Max let me off the rest of the night to tend to Megan. And from the hour i have known her, i can tell you she seems like a very sweet girl. The almost silent tone of her voice is haunting in a way. It puts me on edge. And im still not completely sure if this is just how she talks, or if her speech has been a bit influenced by this situation. She sits in the back room while me and Max stand within the walls of his office trying to figure out exactly what to do with her.
"I can take her to a shelter." Max suggests. I look up at him with a sigh, shaking my head. "Have you ever seen one of those shelters? She would be better off sleeping in a car." I reply softly, trying my best to keep my voice low so she doesn't hear us.
Max runs his hands back through his hair, a deep huff escaping his mouth. "Well we sure as hell can't let her go back home to that guy, so i hope you have some sort of plan?"
I reach up and take ahold of my hair, pulling it up into a tight ponytail as i think. I know Max can't take her. His place isn't really visitor friendly. It's not that he doesn't stay in a nice place. He does. With the money he makes here, he's golden. A nice apartment complex. Nice view. But the downside is his landlord, i don't think i have ever met someone as cranky as that man. Then there is his pitiful excuse for a neighbor, and boxes all around the apartment.
And i swear every time you walk in there it smells like seven men have been smoking pot there for a year straight. I would bet money that if you stayed there long enough you could get high on all the excess fumes.
He looks down at me, eyebrow raised as he apparently has the same idea i do.
My mind begins to run through everything as i try to determine if i have enough resources to take care of another person. Enough food to feed someone else. The more i think about it, im sure we can make it work for a night or two. I will just have to do a bit more grocery shopping.
At the end of the day my number of resources doesn't matter. I can't just let her go off on her own roaming the streets all night. The least i can do is give her a place to sleep.
In situations like this i always have to think back to my past. I wouldn't be here where i am if it wasn't for people going out of their way to help me. Every little bit of support helps, no matter how small. Even if its just a dollar from a stranger passing you by on the street. I may not have a lot not, but its more than i would have if there wasn't kind people in this world. And i am aware than some of the people who helped me out had ulterior motives, but i can't focus too much on that. All i can do is appreciate what i have and look hopefully towards the future.
