THE EXOTIC DANCER CHAPTER 039
"Threat Assessment."

"Are you feeling better?" Taehyung asked with concern. In all honesty i didn't understand why i agreed to stay and listen. To hear him out at all, i was mad and upset.

Why would he even want me to stay? I was a mess.

Even he looked a bit surprised when i agreed not to go, maybe it was because in a way i was dreading going home to deal with Max, but to leave him alone with Joe even longer probably wasn't the best decision on my part.

I sat on a large white wrap around couch that covered most of one wall and half of the next. Everything within this house probably costed more than my apartment.

Who am i kidding? Everything in here probably costed more than my apartment and everything in it combined.

I was afraid to sit when i entered, afraid to place my feet upon the carpeting. I didn't even feel safe standing on the rug at the front door.

I moved carefully every time i dared to move hoping that i didn't mess anything up. It would take me years to pay it back if i did.

I looked up at Taehyung and searched my mind for a suitable reply. I didn't want to be snarky even though that was definitely how i was feeling. I wanted to tell him of course i wasn't feeling better. A sit down in a nice house was not enough to lift my spirits, it was actually making me feel even more on edge.

"You look uncomfortable." he stated, watching me carefully.

With a nod i replied. "That's because i am."

Without another word he sat down beside me, taking my hands in his. I was tempted to pull back, i wanted to pull back.

Why was he touching me?

How was that helping anything?

But before i could verbally oppose he began to talk.
"Shailene it's not like i want to do this but my choices are limited as i said. We just have to sit back and let things run their course." he stated, but i didn't agree. I couldn't agree.

"That is such utter bullshit." I argued, pulling away from him. "Your choices may be limited but you still have choices."

He bit down on the inside of his cheek, letting out a frustrated sigh. "Yes but you know very well that sometimes hard choices have to be made. You have made enough of them." He didn't speak those words to me in a rude way, his intentions were obviously not to be hurtful but it still stung a bit.
